Why pay for public-source research?
The databases are public. The paid value is the normalized, reproducible decision record: each candidate is checked against the same named sources at a documented time, and the results and gaps travel together. That replaces a loose set of screenshots, tabs, and recollections with a record another reviewer can read cold.
Normalization does not make the sources broader or more authoritative than they are. The brief records what each source returned, identifies what was not searched, and keeps failed lookups visible instead of turning them into reassuring conclusions.
What each source can show
USPTO federal records
The USPTO Trademark Search system contains active and inactive federal applications and registrations. We preserve the query and returned records; we do not decide whether a result conflicts with your name. The USPTO also states that its database does not include parties whose rights arise only through use, and recommends Internet, state-trademark, and business-name searches. Those searches are outside this brief.

ICANN domain registration data
ICANN identifies RDAP as the definitive source for gTLD registration information since 2025-01-28. A snapshot can record registration data returned for an exact domain. Returned fields can vary or be redacted, and a missing or unresolved response is not a promise that the domain can be registered.

Public handle URLs
Handle checks are observations, not availability lookups. For each customer-named service, we request the direct public profile URL and preserve the outcome: resolved page, redirect, error, block, or no response. A not-found response describes that URL at that timestamp. It does not establish ownership, reservability, platform policy, trademark rights, or whether the service will let anyone claim it.
How UNKNOWN works
If a source cannot be reached, rate-limits the request, blocks the check, returns ambiguous data, or cannot be interpreted without a legal conclusion, that row says UNKNOWN. It never becomes zero, no conflict, available, or clear. An unknown is a gap in the evidence record and stays visible in the PDF and CSV.

The three-step process
- Send the short list. Provide up to 3 exact candidate names, up to 6 exact gTLD domains, and up to 5 services with the profile URL pattern to check.
- Confirm the boundary. We state the exact strings, sources, and unsupported checks before starting. An unsuitable source is removed visibly or the scope is declined; it is never silently replaced.
- Receive the record. The PDF and CSV arrive within 2 business days after confirmation, with evidence and limitations in matching rows.
