SEC 8-K change-watch methodology and limits
We sealed 45 successful daily SEC search receipts through 2026-08-08, deduplicated them to 3,288 captured accessions, and reconstructed 3,288 primary-document links. Failed source evidence makes the family unavailable; it never becomes an empty or zero-result page.
This methodology is mechanical and reproducible from the sealed SQLite store; it does not use a model to decide which records look important.
Collection boundary
This is not complete EDGAR coverage. We hold 45 successful daily full-text-search receipts from 2026-06-23 through 2026-08-08. Each receipt is one capped recent-results page; the largest captured snapshot contains 138 distinct accessions. Counts describe only filings captured by those snapshots. The source query is limited to forms 8-K and 8-K/A. The SEC accepts filings throughout the business day, while our collector takes one daily observation. A count on these pages therefore means “captured by our dated snapshots,” never “all SEC filings.” EDGAR is a permanent public archive, so our product advantage is the filtering and Monday delivery cadence, not scarcity.
Deduplication and item assignment
The recent-results endpoint repeats an accession across daily snapshots. We keep the newest sealed copy of each accession, then assign it to every SEC item code in the search result. One filing can therefore appear on both Item 4.01 and Item 5.02 pages. That is not a duplicate within either page; it reflects the filing’s own item list.
Document-link repair
The stored historical URL placed the dashless accession directly below the EDGAR data directory and omitted the required CIK segment. The reader ignores that field. It accepts only a numeric CIK, a structurally valid accession, and a primary-document basename; it then builds the official CIK/accession/document archive path. A malformed component is excluded rather than turned into a plausible link.
Privacy and republication boundary
The public projection exposes the filing entity, CIK, filed date, accession, form, business-state tags, SIC tags, item codes, and corrected primary-document URL. It does not expose the sealed raw JSON, file description, exhibit text, addresses, emails, phone numbers, or person names. Item 5.02 filings often name officers and directors; we link to the government record but do not lift those names into our pages.
