The other covers the record on its own. If that second code is identical on two different days, the source said exactly the same thing both times. If it is different, something moved, and you can see what.
- 1,649 earthquakes were read on more than one day. 1,310 said exactly the same thing both times and 339 had changed.Counted out of the earthquake database while this page was built, by comparing those second fingerprints. That is the number the whole idea rests on: most records do not move, and the ones that do are findable.
- We worked out 26 fingerprints again while writing this page, across 17 readers. Every one matched.One record out of each set of records we keep, rebuilt from the stored copy with the same method that sealed it. If any of them had come out different it would have been left off this page, and it would have been said out loud.
- We have gone back to a source and got the same fingerprint out.On 13 Aug 2026 we fetched clinical study
NCT00520975from ClinicalTrials.gov again and the record came back with the same fingerprint we had sealed for it. That is the check working from the outside in, not just from our own files.
