Chicago agenda changes

The City of Chicago publishes its meeting list and replaces it in place. We keep a dated copy on most days and name the days we missed, so you get what moved.

What this page is53,595 rows held ยท newest sealed read 2026-08-29

  • We caught 202 changes to Chicago meeting records across 67 sealed days.
  • We hold 350 meetings across 29 bodies, and 2,013 agenda items across 17 bodies, for the City of Chicago.
  • 1,103 items moved from one stage to another, in the words Chicago uses itself. We do not translate them.
  • 70 items had the wording rewritten after already being on a published agenda. A further 45 were spacing or punctuation put right in a title, which we count but rank last.
  • 113 are the agenda being stamped published again at the same web address. Whatever was at that address before is not there now, and nothing on the public site marks it.
  • 40 are a visible edit: a new agenda address, a new status, a new date or time, a new meeting place, or minutes going up.

Real rows out of our sealed copies

These are rows we read out of dated copies we keep ourselves. The live source shows today only, so once a row moves, what it said before is gone from the place you would go to look.
Source: the meeting records of the City of Chicago, read through the Chicago City Clerk's ELMS records system. The records are theirs; the dated copies and the comparison between them are ours.

What this page cannot tell you

  • We can only show you a change that happened between two of our reads. If a council put an agenda up and took it down again inside one day, we did not see it and we will not pretend we did. We missed 12 days: 19 Jun 2026, 4 Jul 2026, 8 Jul 2026, 15 Jul 2026 and 8 Aug 2026, plus a 7-day stretch from 11 Aug 2026 to 17 Aug 2026. Anything that moved and moved back inside one of those gaps is not in this feed, and we will not claim it is.
  • We hold six governments and no others: Chicago, Seattle, Austin, Phoenix, Columbus, and Los Angeles County.
  • We ask Chicago for 3 pages of its meeting list and 5 pages of its item list, 100 rows a page. Our newest copy came back with 300 meetings and 500 items, both of them full, so the city's own lists are longer than what we hold. A row leaving one of these lists means it left this file: it does not mean the meeting was cancelled, the item was killed, or that anyone named on it went away.
  • A meeting dropping off the list is usually the list rolling forward past the meeting date, not a withdrawal. That happened 48 times here and is kept out of the table above on purpose.
  • We record what the meeting list said. We do not download the agenda document itself, so we cannot tell you which line inside the PDF changed.

See the file we hold

You do not have to take our word for what is in the file. Here are 25 rows of the real thing, carrying all 9 of its columns, cut out of the dated copies we sealed ourselves. Nothing in it is made up and nothing in it is tidied up.

  • Open the 25 rows as a CSVA plain spreadsheet file. It saves to your machine rather than painting itself into a browser tab, and it opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
  • The same 25 rows as JSONThe same rows again, laid out for reading with code.

Nothing on this page is for sale. The sample file is free to read, and so is every row on the page above it.

These 25 rows are a slice of the file, not the whole of it. What we cannot show you here is how far back it goes: the file goes back further than these rows do.
