Claude Fable 5.1 vs Mythos 5.1: 3 RIA Tests (2026)

Sep 3, 2026

A registered investment adviser does not buy a model because it “refuses less.” It buys a path from a client file to a reviewed memo that supervision can reconstruct. Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 share weights and list price. They do not share access, and they do not share the same cyber and life-science safeguard tightness.

Claude Fable 5.1 vs Claude Mythos 5.1 for financial-services safeguards is a comparison of two Anthropic twins used as recon and research engines, judged on who can actually call the model, what the safeguard split does to a supervised desk, and whether a workflow can keep tool calls, thinking blocks, and archives intact. Neither model is your CRM. Neither is a books-and-records system. Mythos 5.1 is not a public premium tier anyone can pick.

TL;DR

  • Stay on Claude Fable 5.1 for any RIA, broker-dealer, or bank desk that must call a model this week and keep the public safeguard profile.

  • Treat Claude Mythos 5.1 as the same capabilities on Project Glasswing / trusted access only, with looser cyber and life-sci gates — not as a compliance upgrade.

  • List price is a tie at $10 input / $50 output per 1M tokens; cache reads are $0.25; forced tool_choice any/tool returns HTTP 400 on both.

  • Orchestrate recon intake, archive, and a human hold in a workflow layer; do not paste model output into the customer file from a chat window.

Who this is for

This comparison is for a chief compliance officer, RIA operations lead, or wealth-platform owner choosing which Claude 5.1 twin may touch client recon, RMD memos, or research drafts. It assumes you already archive communications somewhere else.

Red flags: skip a custom orchestration layer when native Claude Projects already hold the only memo path, when you have no archive, or when nobody will own a failed recon id. Do not buy Mythos 5.1 because someone said the gates are looser. Do not leave Fable 5.1 because a demo refused a biology-adjacent research question that your desk does not ask.

Zapier, Make, or n8n can move a completed recon event into Slack, retry a failed write, and keep a run log if you design observability, idempotency, access, and retention. That is a fair DIY choice for one stable recipe. A proposed agent design would add a durable recon-id ledger and a human hold before the CRM note is written — not a claim that no-code cannot retry.

When NOT to use US Tech Automations: leave it out when the model’s native console already is the process, when a single iPaaS recipe already has the log supervision trusts, or when there is no second system to sync. Honest self-selection beats a second platform fee.

How we evaluated

Weights assume a U.S. RIA or introducing broker that must reconstruct who saw what, not a lab that wants the loosest twin. A Glasswing participant with a named cyber research charter should raise “twin access” and lower “public safeguard default.”

Evaluation criterionWeightProof testsDisqualifier
Public, supervised access30%1 live callTwin is invite-only with no admin path
Safeguard profile vs client file25%8 promptsLooser cyber/life-sci gates are the buying reason
Tool + thinking contract15%6 tool callsForced tool use 400s in production
Token + cache cost15%3 invoicesCache price appears after signature
Archive / recon reconstructability10%4 exportsChat paste is the only write path
Exit (export traces)5%2 exportsYou cannot leave with the job log

Access is weighted first because Mythos 5.1 is not a SKU a stranger can put on a card. Safeguard profile is second because “looser” is the opposite of what a supervised desk is usually buying. Cost is a tie on list, so it cannot decide the pair.

The three ways teams solve this today

Desks that want Claude 5.1 on recon currently pick one of three operating models. Only two of those models are products on this page.

Fable 5.1 is the twin a financial-services buyer can actually put in a vendor inventory. Mythos 5.1 exists for a named research program. If your recon desk is not on Glasswing, the comparison is over: you run Fable 5.1 or you run neither. If you are on Glasswing, the remaining question is whether looser cyber and life-sci gates are compatible with the file, not whether Mythos “scores higher.” Anthropic does not publish a separate Intelligence Index for Mythos 5.1; it is the same model with a different gate set.

Compliance archiving still sits beside the model. A recon memo that never lands in the archive has the same failure mode as any other unrecorded client touch; see compliance archiving automation. Annual RMD math is a separate workflow with a calendar, not a chat; see RMD calculation workflow.

What automating safeguard recon changes

The job is not “ask the twin a question.” The job is: take a recon exception, draft a supervised note, refuse a write that lacks a unique id, and keep thinking blocks valid so a reviewer can see what the model did.

Anthropic documents that Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 reject forced tool use: tool_choice.type set to any or tool returns HTTP 400 invalid_request_error, while auto and none still work, on a 1,000,000-token context window with 128,000 max output tokens (Fable 5.1 what’s new). A worked recon pass looks like this: 15 exception rows from the custodian file, 3 of which lack a unique account key, submitted as one Messages API job with tool_choice.type left on auto, strict: true on the record_summary tool, and a reviewer hold on any of the 3 rows that cannot bind an account id. Do not rebuild the system prompt between turns or Fable 5.1 thinking blocks 400. Mythos 5.1 does not run that prefix-mismatch check the same way — that is a contract difference, not a reason to chase the invite.

That is the only “magic.” The rest is supervision. If the note cannot name the account, the model is guessing. If the write-back cannot name the recon id, you will fail a books-and-records request.

A configurable path starts when the custodian file lands. US Tech Automations can require a unique account key, a non-empty exception reason, and a reviewer before a CRM note is written, then call Claude Fable 5.1 with tool_choice.type on auto and store the pass/fail reason. Prerequisites: API credentials, an archive destination, a uniqueness key on account-plus-as-of-date, and a person who will reject a fluent memo that used the wrong household. Outputs: a task, a trace, and an exception list — not a promised accuracy rate. The same pattern shows up in the broader financial services automation guide.

Time + cost deltas

List prices are a tie. Access time is not. Numbers below mix sourced token prices with an illustrative 15-row recon batch. They are not a customer result.

Illustrative 15 × 40k in / 8k out $ (no cache)6.00 + 6.00 = 12.0012.00 if you can call it

Fable and Mythos list: $10 / $50 according to Anthropic, $10 input and $50 output per 1M tokens for both twins, with Mythos 5.1 limited to Project Glasswing participants. Cache reads at $0.25 are the Fable 5.1 cut versus the prior $1 cache read (75% lower). Anthropic estimates typical token bills ~25% cheaper, up to ~45% on agent loops — that is a cache story, not a claim that Fable is cheaper than some other lab’s model on AA cost/task.

Forced tool_choice returns HTTP 400 according to Claude API docs, 400 invalid_request_error when tool_choice is any or a named tool. Build the recon tool as auto plus an instruction, or the desk will think “the model is down” during a month-end file.

An illustrative 15-row file at 40,000 input tokens and 8,000 output tokens per row, with no cache, is 15 × 40,000 × $10 / 1M = $6.00 in and 15 × 8,000 × $50 / 1M = $6.00 out, $12.00 before the reviewer hour. One supervision hour still dwarfs the token line. Do not switch twins to save cents if the real leak is an unarchived note.

Where US Tech Automations fits

US Tech Automations sits above the twin, not beside it as a third model. After the custodian file is parsed, a configurable workflow can bind the account id, call Claude Fable 5.1, hold the CRM write, and push the trace to the archive the desk already pays for. That is the step that makes recon reconstructable. It is not a reason to enroll in Glasswing.

If the only motion is “analyst pastes a prompt and copies a paragraph,” you do not need this layer. If the motion is “15 exceptions, 3 missing keys, one reviewer, one archive,” you do.

Mythos 5.1 has no public signup clock. Do not put “week 2: enable Mythos” on a program plan unless Glasswing already named the firm. Fable 5.1 on AWS is a Covered Model: aws_review can retain traffic up to 30 days unless the org is EFS-eligible for zero-data-retention through 31 December 2026. Confirm that before a client-file prompt hits Bedrock.

Supervision clocks are not model clocks. SAR filing window: 30 calendar days according to FinCEN, 30 calendar days after initial detection is the standard SAR clock in that guidance family. A model twin does not extend it. SEC Rule 506(b): 35 non-accredited cap according to SEC, 35 is the cap on non-accredited investors in a Rule 506(b) offering. Neither a private-offering cap nor a SAR clock is a model score. Both are why a looser cyber twin is a strange thing to want on a client recon queue.

Books and records still have a calendar. According to FINRA, 30 days is the window in Rule 4370 to update emergency-contact information after a change — a reminder that “we will reconstruct it from chat” is not a business-continuity plan. Put the recon id in the archive the week you run the file, not the week someone asks.

Pros and cons

Claude Fable 5.1

Pros

  • Public on paid Claude, API, and major clouds on 1–3 September 2026.

  • Same $10 / $50 list and $0.25 cache reads as Mythos 5.1, without an invite.

  • Public safeguard profile; thinking-block prefix check helps keep traces honest.

  • Documented 1,000,000-token context and 128,000 max output.

Cons

  • Forced tool_choice any/tool returns 400; thinking always on.

  • Earlier models cannot read Fable 5.1 thinking blocks.

  • AWS Covered Model 30-day review unless EFS/ZDR.

  • Will still refuse some life-sci / cyber-shaped prompts the public gates cover.

Claude Mythos 5.1

Pros

  • Same capabilities, pricing, context, and output caps as Fable 5.1.

  • Looser cyber and life-sci safeguards for the named Glasswing research charter.

  • Does not run Fable’s prefix-mismatch thinking check the same way.

  • Useful only when that charter is real and legal has signed the twin.

Cons

  • Project Glasswing / trusted access only — not a public picker option.

  • Looser cyber gates are a supervision problem on a client file, not a feature.

  • Same 400 on forced tool use; same $10 / $50 sticker if you can even call it.

  • No separate public intelligence score; do not invent one.

FAQs

Should an RIA pick Claude Fable 5.1 or Claude Mythos 5.1?

Pick Claude Fable 5.1 unless the firm is already a Project Glasswing participant with a written charter for the looser twin; Mythos 5.1 is not a public SKU.

Is Mythos 5.1 a higher-scoring model?

No. Anthropic describes the same capabilities and weights with a different safeguard and access wrapper. There is no separate public Intelligence Index cell for Mythos 5.1.

Do we need the looser cyber gates for recon memos?

No. A client recon queue is the wrong place to buy looser cyber and life-sci gates. Stay on Fable 5.1 and keep prompts inside the file you already supervise.

Can we force the model to call the archive tool?

No. tool_choice.type any or tool returns HTTP 400 on both twins. Leave tool_choice on auto and say in the instruction when the tool applies.

When is a second workflow layer the wrong buy for safeguard recon?

Skip it when a single Claude Project, a single script, or a no-code recipe already gates ids and writes to the archive you trust, or when there is no second system and no reviewer.

What breaks Fable 5.1 thinking blocks mid-recon?

Editing earlier turns, rebuilding system or tools, or injecting a per-request reminder you then remove. Keep the conversation append-only, or the next request 400s on new accounts.

Key Takeaways

  • Claude Fable 5.1 is the public twin; Claude Mythos 5.1 is Glasswing-only with looser cyber and life-sci gates.

  • Fable and Mythos list: $10 / $50, cache reads $0.25, context 1,000,000, max out 128,000 — the twins do not compete on sticker.

  • Forced tool_choice any/tool returns HTTP 400 on both; build auto plus instructions.

  • Do not treat Mythos 5.1 as a compliance upgrade or a public premium tier.

  • US Tech Automations belongs only when recon ids, archive writes, and a reviewer must cross the model API and the CRM.

Choose Fable 5.1 for a supervised desk you can actually call. Treat Mythos 5.1 as an invite-only twin, not a picker option. Then prove unique recon ids from exception to archive.

The team at US Tech Automations can map a configurable recon-to-archive trail. Review workflow pricing after you have named the twin you can call, the archive, and the reviewer.
