5 CLM Software Platforms: Legal Buyer Guide [2026]
Contract lifecycle management software is the system of record for an agreement from intake and authoring through review, signature handoff, repository, and obligation tracking. This page compares five sourced CLM products — Ironclad, Icertis, DocuSign CLM, LinkSquares, and Agiloft — on those jobs. Five counts the five products we could read on 1 September 2026. It is not a ranking. Evisort was omitted because its URL redirected to Workday on 1 September 2026. US Tech Automations is not one of the five CLM platforms and is not ranked.
No vendor paid for inclusion. Do not convert vendor "AI-native" slogans into independent accuracy facts. Analyst badges on homepages are the vendor's citations of Gartner or Forrester, not ranks assigned here.
TL;DR: Shortlist Ironclad if legal ops wants a single CLM with Jurist (the vendor's AI assistant) and Salesforce-adjacent create-and-sign. Shortlist Icertis if you need AI-native contract intelligence aimed at global Fortune 500 intake, operate, and analyze. Shortlist DocuSign CLM if signature, CLM, and a published workflow-step library should sit with the same e-sign vendor. Shortlist LinkSquares if in-house counsel wants an agentic CLM pitched at speed-to-agree with a published G2 rating. Shortlist Agiloft if pre- and post-signature CLM plus a no-code data model and 1,000+ connectors matter. Intake exceptions and write-back to CRM or ERP are not a sixth CLM.
What CLM software is (and is not)
CLM software stores the contract, the playbook, the redline, the approval, the signed file, and the obligation. It is not your CRM, your AP suite, or a general document-extraction toy. AI contract management software adds review, extraction, and Q&A on top of that repository. Treat every accuracy claim as the vendor's until you run your own playbook on your own paper.
NIST AI risk floor for contract review
If you will let a model redline or summarize, you need a risk process that is not the vendor's slogan. According to NIST, the Generative AI Profile (NIST AI 600-1) is a companion to AI RMF 1.0 (January 2023), published 26 July 2024 and updated 8 April 2026, for voluntary use under EO 14110. Use it as an evaluation lens for AI contract review, playbooks, and redlines. It is not product certification and not legal advice.
Ask every finalist: where does the model stop, who accepts a non-standard clause, and what is logged when Jurist, Vera, Iris, or Astra proposes a change.
Key Takeaways
CLM is the contract system of record; e-sign can be native or a handoff.
None of the five vendors published a directly comparable standard per-contract or per-seat dollar on the pages we read on 1 September 2026.
According to DocuSign (2026), CLM shows 4.3 from 507 reviews on that page, 100+ pre-configured workflow steps, and 100 pre-trained AI models.
According to Agiloft (2026), the homepage states 96% customer retention, 99% implementation satisfaction, 96% support satisfaction, and 1,000+ connectors.
According to LinkSquares (2026), the homepage displays 4.7 from 300+ reviews.
Extraction that is not CLM lives in AI data extraction software.
How We Evaluated CLM Suites
Feature pages reward "AI" adjectives. We weighted the jobs that change a legal-ops buy: intake you can test, authoring and playbooks, whether AI review is a named product with a stop condition, obligation tracking after signature, and whether a stranger can read a price.
| Criterion | Weight | Why it carries this weight |
|---|---|---|
| Intake and authoring | 20% | If business users cannot start a contract, legal remains the bottleneck |
| AI review with a human stop | 20% | NIST lens: generative review is a risk activity, not a badge |
| Obligation tracking and repository | 20% | Value after signature; most "CLM" demos stop at send-for-sign |
| Signature handoff | 15% | Native e-sign vs DocuSign/Adobe connectors |
| Published, comparable price | 15% | Quote-only CLM recreates the evaluation cost you are trying to leave |
| Integrations and export | 10% | CRM/ERP write-back is where CLM stops being a file cabinet |

Pricing, 1 September 2026
No standard list price was readable on Ironclad, Icertis, DocuSign CLM, LinkSquares, or Agiloft homepages. Cells say so rather than guessing a per-contract cost.
| Platform | Public subscription $ | Other published figures on the cited page | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ironclad | Not publicly listed | Gartner 2025 MQ Leader badge; Forrester Wave Q1 2025 Leaders category (vendor-cited) | Request demo |
| Icertis | Not publicly listed | Reviews quoting customers with more than $30 billion revenue (vendor-hosted quotes) | Request demo |
| DocuSign CLM | Not publicly listed | 4.3 / 507 reviews; 2,200 enterprises (vendor-stated); 100+ workflow steps; 100 AI models | Talk to sales |

| Agiloft | Not publicly listed | 96% retention; 99% implementation satisfaction; 96% support satisfaction; 1,000+ connectors | Schedule demo; Astra signup exists as a separate AI product |
According to Ironclad (2026), the homepage cites a 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader placement for CLM and a Forrester Wave Leaders category in Q1 2025 — those are Ironclad's citations of the analyst reports, not this page's ranks. According to Icertis (2026), customer-review snippets on the homepage refer to companies with more than $30 billion in annual revenue; that is a customer-size claim on Icertis's site, not a price.

The Five CLM Platforms
Ironclad — AI CLM with Jurist, sales-led
Best fit: legal ops and GC teams that want create-research-review-approve-execute-fulfill-analyze-optimize in one loop, Salesforce-adjacent sending, and a named assistant (Jurist) for draft, review, negotiate, and research. The homepage documents those stages, lists integrations (Salesforce, Slack, Coupa, Ramp, DocuSign, Word), and shows G2 Summer 2026 Leader badges plus the 2025 Gartner MQ Leader image.
Limitations: no public price. Homepage percentage callouts (reduction in contracting time, adoption in 71 days) did not yield readable numerals in this fetch — we are not inventing them from the graphic. Prove playbook stop-conditions in a demo, especially if non-legal users will generate paper.
Implementation: request demo. Ask for sandbox access to Jurist on your own NDA and MSA, with a human required before send.
Icertis — AI-native contract intelligence for global enterprise
Best fit: large enterprises that want Engage (drafting, redlining, negotiation), Operate (structured, actionable contracts), and Analyze (portfolio intelligence), with Vera as the named contract AI. The homepage positions "the Global Fortune 500 runs on Icertis" and hosts Gartner Peer Insights quotes, including a telecommunications customer describing 100-150 page agreements summarized for leadership.
Limitations: no public price. "AI-native" is the vendor's architecture claim, not a measured accuracy rate in this guide. If you are a 10-person legal team without a CLM admin, the enterprise packaging is the disqualifier.
Implementation: request demo or talk to an expert. Ask where Vera is not allowed to change a clause without counsel.
DocuSign CLM — CLM in the agreement cloud, still quote-priced
Best fit: organizations already on DocuSign eSignature that want generation, AI-assisted review, 100+ workflow steps, a central repository, and Salesforce / SAP Ariba / Coupa connectors without adding a second signature vendor. The CLM page states 4.3 from 507 reviews, 2,200 enterprises, 90% reduction in time to generate a new sales contract, 85% reduction in errors, and 449% ROI — the last three are DocuSign's marketing figures and are not used as independent category facts here. It also cites WCC Association language that inefficient contract management can amount to more than 9% of annual revenue — that is DocuSign quoting WCC, not a number we re-tested.
Limitations: no public CLM SKU price on the product URL. "Sixth year" Gartner Leader is vendor-stated. If you only need e-sign, you do not need CLM.
Implementation: talk to sales. The page describes a drag-and-drop workflow editor and 100 pre-trained AI models for extraction.
LinkSquares — agentic CLM pitched at in-house teams
Best fit: in-house counsel and legal ops that want intake-to-redline in Word, a single repository, and a G2-rated product (4.7, 300+ reviews) without building a custom data model first. The homepage emphasizes governed agreements, AI that "gets every team moving," and a demo library for AI redlining.
Limitations: no public price. Percentage impact figures on the homepage rendered as 0% in this fetch (client-side counters) — we are not inventing the intended numbers. Prove redline quality on your paper.
Implementation: request demo. Word add-in is part of the story; confirm how obligations export after signature.
Agiloft — data-first CLM, pre- and post-signature, no-code configuration
Best fit: legal, procurement, and IT teams that want a configurable data model, obligation tracking after signature, Astra as the contracts AI, and 1,000+ connectors (Salesforce, SAP, Oracle named) with DocuSign and Adobe Sign built in. The homepage states CLM leadership 6 years in a row (Gartner, vendor-cited), 96% retention, 99% implementation satisfaction, and 96% support satisfaction.
Limitations: no public CLM subscription on the homepage. Astra has a separate "join for free" path — that is not the same as a free CLM. No-code still needs an owner who will maintain the tables.
Implementation: schedule a demo. Phased implementation is how CDW is described on the same page.
Recipe: intake to obligation (then the seam)
Name the contract types that may start without legal (NDA, order form) versus those that may not (MSA, DPA).
Load the playbook: fallback clauses, who can accept a deviation, and the NIST-style stop when the model is unsure.
Connect signature (native or DocuSign/Adobe).
Turn on obligation and renewal objects — a repository with no reminder is a file share.
Export
Contract.Status(or the vendor's equivalent) to CRM/ERP so sales and finance are not copying from PDF.Only then map exceptions: a non-standard indemnity still in email, a vendor paper that failed intake, a renewal the CRM never saw.
A Worked Example: Where CLM Stops
Take a legal-ops team running about 90 new revenue contracts a month at an average ACV of $48,000, with 12% arriving as vendor paper. The CLM should intake the request, apply the playbook, send for signature, and store the signed PDF. Friction starts when the signed MSA must create a Salesforce opportunity stage, an obligation reminder, and an AP vendor record if the paper was a procurement MSA.
When CRM writes the result, Salesforce stores Contract.Status. At 90 contracts, a 5% failed write-back is about 5 agreements a month that finance still thinks are "in legal." That is not a defect in Ironclad or DocuSign CLM. US Tech Automations can orchestrate contract intake, exception routing, and write-back around a CLM, with retries and a counsel review queue. It is not a CLM.
First-party publishing note, not CLM evidence: datapoint fp_quality_gate (verified artifact, as of 24 June 2026) is an automated content gate before publish. It is methodology, not a CLM product score.
See what agentic workflows are and the agentic automation platform guide. Extraction-only tools are a different buy: AI data extraction software.
Who This Is For
This guide is for general counsel, legal ops, and procurement leads who need a contract system of record — not a shared Drive folder — and who already have Salesforce, an ERP, or an e-sign tool that must receive the signed state.
Red flags: Skip a CLM RFP if you have no owner for playbooks, if you cannot export last year's executed files, or if "AI CLM" is being used as a synonym for a chatbot on PDFs with no repository.
When NOT to use US Tech Automations
If you only need e-sign, buy DocuSign eSignature (or the e-sign you already have) and stop. If Ironclad or Agiloft already runs intake, playbook, signature, and obligations, native modules beat a bolted-on layer for those objects. If your volume is a few NDAs a month in a shared inbox, you need a repository first, not orchestration on top of a system you do not have.
Zapier, Make, n8n, or a developer on the CLM API
The realistic alternative is: Word template, DocuSign, a Drive folder, and a Zap that sets Salesforce to Closed-Won. Those tools can keep run histories, retries, error branches, and audit evidence when you turn those on. You still design idempotency so a duplicate signed webhook does not clone the opportunity, decide who gets a failed obligation reminder, lock who can edit the playbook, and set retention on contract text that may include personal data.
A proposed US Tech Automations design would take the CLM "executed" event, write Contract.Status, open the obligation record, notify AP if the paper is inbound, and escalate only playbook misses to counsel. Prerequisites: API access on the CLM you buy, a field map, and a named reviewer. That is a configuration sketch, not a live deployment.
Implementation help of that shape is described in enterprise automation services.
Common CLM buying mistakes
| Mistake | What it costs |
|---|---|
| Treating a Gartner badge on the vendor homepage as this page's rank | Analyst placement is vendor-cited |
| Budgeting e-sign as CLM | Repository, playbook, and obligations are separate SKUs |
| Believing homepage 0% counters (LinkSquares fetch) | Client-side graphics; we published no invented % |
| Skipping NIST-style stop conditions on AI redlines | Unreviewed model language in a signed MSA |
| Inferring per-contract cost | Five of five: not publicly listed |
| Omitting Evisort without a reason | Omitted here because the URL redirected to Workday on 1 Sep 2026 |
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best CLM software in this guide?
There is not one. Ironclad and Icertis pitch AI assistants (Jurist, Vera) for enterprise legal ops. DocuSign CLM is the e-sign vendor's CLM with a published workflow-step count. LinkSquares is G2-rated for in-house teams. Agiloft is the configurable, pre- and post-signature data model. Price was not publicly comparable.
Is AI contract management software accurate enough to skip counsel?
No vendor on this page published an independent, cross-suite accuracy rate we could verify. Use NIST AI 600-1 as a risk process. Keep a human stop on non-standard paper.
Does DocuSign CLM replace a standalone CLM?
It is a CLM. Whether it replaces Ironclad or Agiloft depends on playbook depth, obligation objects, and whether you already live in DocuSign. We did not retrieve a public CLM price to settle that on cost.
Why is Evisort missing?
Its primary URL redirected to Workday on 1 September 2026, so it is omitted rather than described from memory.
Do any of these CLM tools publish a price?
Not on the five homepages and product URLs we read. Contact provider. Do not infer a per-contract cost from ROI marketing (DocuSign's 449% ROI line is the vendor's TEI claim, not a list price).
When does orchestration belong on top of CLM?
When executed contracts still have to update CRM, AP, and a renewal calendar with retries and a counsel path. See agentic workflows. Until the CLM is the system of record, you are automating a folder.
Sign the playbook, then the handoff
Shortlist two CLM products. Run the same packet: an NDA that should never reach legal, an MSA with a non-standard indemnity, and a renewal 90 days out. Keep orchestration out of that scoreboard.
If the winning CLM still leaves intake, exceptions, and write-back stranded, that is a separate implementation. US Tech Automations orchestrates those handoffs; it does not replace the CLM. Map the seam on the agentic workflows page after the repository is chosen.
