How DocLang export actually works
Capture still happens in FineReader Engine: image, OCR, layout. The new path is export to DocLang instead of (or besides) PDF. doclang.ai describes a constrained XML: semantic tags, bounding boxes, reading order, OTSL tables (5 structural tokens vs 28 in HTML in their example), governance metadata in . Audio, images, and video segments are first-class in the spec. FineReader Engine is one implementer; Docling is named as another native implementer on that site.
The constraint that broke is not OCR quality. It is feeding agents a print format. PDF tells a renderer where to draw pixels. DocLang tells a model what a heading is.
