Lightspeed Voice Applied Epic [What It Changes]

Sep 1, 2026

TL;DR

  • Lightspeed Voice Applied Epic is a certified phone-system join: Lightspeed's VoIP platform can be activated on Applied Epic as part of Applied Systems' first Vendor Certification class, per Lightspeed's August 20 PRWeb release and Applied's August 12 program launch.

  • Certified activation is faster than a standard integration build and does not require an extra purchase from Applied. Feature claims about caller information, call tracking, and conversation insights are Lightspeed's.

  • This is a phone system on the AMS, next to Sonant's AI receptionist — two different phone products in the same inaugural list of 11 certified vendors.

  • A two-truck HVAC shop, a 10-person agency, or a solo clinic should care because the constraint that broke is "the phone and the system of record were two products, and joining them used to mean a custom build plus a vendor fee." Independent agencies live that every day.

Key Takeaways

  • Applied named Lightspeed in the inaugural certified class on August 12. Lightspeed's own wire went out on August 20. Treat feature language as Lightspeed's; treat the class list as Applied's.

  • Sonant writes activities back from an AI receptionist. Lightspeed is a VoIP platform with NOVA summaries and AMS sync. Do not shop them as one SKU.

  • "No extra purchase from Applied" is not "free phone service." Lightspeed still bills its own seats.

  • The first honest test is one inbound number, one Epic activity type, and a reviewer who can see the recording next to the note.

The answer in plain English

Lightspeed Voice Applied Epic is the certified connection between Lightspeed's AI-powered VoIP platform and Applied Epic, the agency management system, so caller information, call activity, and conversation insights can sit on the account the agency already runs. As of August 20, 2026, Lightspeed said that join is in Applied's first certified class. As of August 12, 2026, Applied independently named Lightspeed on the inaugural list.

A two-truck HVAC company already knows the version of this problem that does not involve Epic: the office phone rings, someone scribbles a name, and the job never gets a note. A 10-person marketing agency takes a client call on a cell and updates the CRM tomorrow, or not. A solo clinic's front desk writes "Mrs. Chen called" on a pad. Insurance agencies do the same thing at higher E&O cost: the insured called, the CSR pulled the policy from memory, and Applied Epic still shows last month's activity. Certification does not make that note true. It removes Applied's extra integration purchase from the path that writes the call next to the policy.

That is the SMB bridge. You do not need 200 producers. You need one phone system, one AMS, and a rule for what a call is allowed to create in the record.

Who should use this page

This page is for an agency principal, operations lead, or IT owner on Applied Epic who was told a phone vendor is now "certified," and for any small shop comparing a phone-to-CRM join.

Red flags: treating Lightspeed and Sonant as interchangeable; assuming certified means Applied will support Lightspeed's AI summaries; auto-sending a follow-up email from a transcript without a person.

What Applied launched, and what Lightspeed added

According to Applied Systems, the Vendor Certification Program launched on August 12, 2026. Graham Blackwell, President, Applied Systems, said the program creates a faster, simpler, lower-cost way to integrate third-party technology into Applied management systems. Activating a certified integration is faster than a standard integration build and does not require any additional purchase from Applied. Certified vendors get access to the latest Applied Epic releases.

According to Applied Systems, initial companies with certified integrations include 11 names: Ascend, Adapt, Coverflow, Fulcrum, Inteveo EcoLink, Lightspeed, Outmarket, Quandri, RecordLinker, Sonant, and Xilo. 11 vendors made Applied's first certified class. That list is Applied's, not Lightspeed's.

According to PRWeb, Lightspeed announced on August 20, 2026 that its Applied Epic integrations are among the first certified integrations in that program. The dateline is Venice, Fla. Certified integrations can be activated faster than a standard integration build and do not require additional purchase from Applied.

According to PRWeb, President Joel Poythress said on that August 20, 2026 wire that certification removes a significant cost barrier for shared customers. The same release says Lightspeed Voice integrates with Applied Epic so users can access caller information more efficiently, track call activity, streamline call-related workflows, and connect conversation insights with everyday systems. Treat those feature verbs as Lightspeed's. The media contact listed is Lacy Landers, Lightspeed Voice, 1 9415645380.

Applied's certified-vendor directory repeats the three buyer promises: trust (onboarding and certification), speed (faster than a standard build), cost (no additional purchase from Applied). Its Lightspeed blurb matches the wire: cloud calling, routing, auto-attendants, voicemail-to-email, AI transcription, summaries, and sentiment analysis, plus Applied Epic and EZLynx. The directory is the live roster; the August 12 press release is the dated class photo.

Two phone products, one class

Sonant's Applied page says Sonant is an Applied Certified Integration Vendor — "the only voice AI" in that framing — and that agencies do not need to purchase separate API access. AI Receptionist answers calls, searches Epic in real time, and triages into activities. AI Outbound handles renewals, cancellations, and speed-to-lead. AI Call Companion logs staff calls and flags E&O risk. Blake Thompson, VP Operations, is quoted preferring write-back into Epic. According to Sonant, implementation is typically 5–10 days from kickoff to live calls. That range is Sonant's, not Lightspeed's.

Lightspeed is the phone system. Sonant is the voice agent that claims to sit on the number you already use. An agency can, in principle, run Lightspeed as the PBX and still evaluate Sonant, or run neither. Certification of both on August 12 does not merge the products. Inteveo EcoLink is a third communications path on the same roster: RingCentral and other telephony into Epic and EZLynx. Three certified phone-adjacent vendors is a shopping problem, not a reason to turn all three on.

The rest of the class is not a phone class. Adapt bridges carrier notices. Ascend is financial operations. Coverflow automates policy-lifecycle work inside Epic. Fulcrum is a brokerage AI platform. Outmarket cites 12–15 hours saved per person each week on its Applied directory card. Quandri says agencies can manage up to 10 times more policies without adding headcount. RecordLinker is Epic operations tooling. Xilo cites a 70% reduction in time from client discovery to close and 2–3x more clients per rep. Those figures are vendor cards on Applied's directory. They are not Lightspeed results and they are not independently audited here.

Non-certified "other vendor integrations" on the same directory still include AFCO Direct, blueC, Canopy Connect (10,000 agents on that card), Certificial, DocuSign (750,000 customers on that card), Employee Navigator (5,000 brokers, 175,000 companies, 14+ million employees and dependents on that card), and FIRST Insurance Funding ($16 billion in loans financed annually on that card). Certification is a new path, not the only path.

What Lightspeed actually is

Lightspeed Voice describes an AI-powered communications platform with NOVA and NOVA Pro: custom summaries, success score, call queries, transcription with PII redaction, sentiment, smart summaries, and AMS/CRM automation that updates records with call details. According to Lightspeed, the platform states 99.999% system uptime, 99% support satisfaction, most issues resolved in 8 minutes or less, and average wait time under 2 minutes. 99.999% uptime is Lightspeed's stated figure. Those are first-party operations claims, not Applied's certification metrics.

The homepage lists Applied Epic among many AMS and CRM logos, including AMS360 and QQ Catalyst via Vertafore, EZLynx, HawkSoft, Agency Matrix, AgencyZoom, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zapier, and others. Lightspeed's integrations page states that insurance AMS integrations include AMS360, Applied Epic, HawkSoft, QQCatalyst, Momentum, and others, and that NOVA can add summaries, transcription, sentiment, and follow-up workflows.

NOVA is the call-intelligence layer: summaries, transcription, sentiment, CRM/AMS sync. NOVA Pro adds custom summaries, Success Score, Call Queries, Ask NOVA, and follow-ups. A March 25, 2025 PRWeb says NOVA won a 2025 Artificial Intelligence Excellence Award in the Insurance category from the Business Intelligence Group, and that integrations span over 50 CRM and AMS platforms. Joel Poythress is CRO on that older wire and President on the August 20, 2026 wire. Title change is a personnel detail, not a product proof.

Applied Epic's product page says 7 of the 10 largest insurance agencies are standardized on Applied Epic (source: Business Insurance Top 100) and 91% of Applied Epic reviewers on G2 rate it 4 stars or higher (source: 2024 G2 Reviews). Those figures describe the AMS, not Lightspeed. The product release hub and Applied CSR24 are official Epic-adjacent pages. Certification means Lightspeed can ride Epic releases; it does not mean CSR24 or Recon are in the phone join.

USTA analysis: one of eleven

Working only from Applied's inaugural list: 11 certified companies, 1 of which is Lightspeed. That is 1 of 11, or about 9% of the first class by headcount. Inputs: the 11 names in Applied's August 12 release. This is not a quality ranking. It is a reminder that "first class" is a cohort, and two of the 11 (Lightspeed and Sonant) compete for phone-related budget. An agency that buys both without a written split — PBX versus receptionist — will not be able to say which product wrote the activity.

Why now: the fee and the build time

The constraint that broke, on Applied's telling, is the extra Applied purchase and the slower standard integration build. Certification is a process vendors complete so agencies can turn the partner on without that line item. Lightspeed's Poythress quote is about removing a cost barrier for shared customers. Neither party published the dollar amount of the old Applied fee on these pages. Do not invent it.

An agency already comparing Applied Epic versus Salesforce Financial Services Cloud is deciding where the system of record lives. Lightspeed certification does not move that decision. It only changes the cost of hanging a phone system on Epic if Epic is already the record. Retention-marketing comparisons such as Agency Revolution versus Better and the state of insurance automation are the right adjacent reads: a call summary that never becomes an activity is the same failure as a drip that never reads the AMS.

Teams already logging call notes through US Tech Automations can treat Lightspeed's certified Epic write as the destination of one step — attach recording, summary, and account ID — with the same human review they use on any other inbound. Certification is not permission to auto-email the insured.

What this does not establish

It does not establish that Lightspeed summaries are accurate on a particular book. It does not establish E&O coverage for an unreviewed transcript. It does not establish that Sonant's "only voice AI" claim and Lightspeed's "AI-powered VoIP" claim can be true in the same sentence without a definition of voice AI. It does not establish HIPAA, PCI, or SOC 2 for a given tenant because a homepage listed those words. Recheck the current report.

Customer service agents are the USTA shape for "intake a conversation, draft a note, wait." They are not Applied Epic.

A buyer's evaluation sequence

One number1 inbound DID into 1 Epic activity typePrincipal forbids extra activity types
Summary off, then onSame known-answer calls both waysCSR compares note to recording
Stop rule1 wrong account or 1 missing E&O factOwner unplugs the write-back

Do not start with NOVA Pro queries across the whole book. Start with whether the right Epic client opens when the phone rings. Cision's accessibility statement is on the PRWeb chrome; it is not a product spec.

US Tech Automations can route the accepted activity to the next internal task and keep the reject reason. It should not send a policy change.

A week-one test that still uses the recording

Write the test before NOVA Pro queries the whole book. Pick one inbound number and one Epic activity type. Run a short set of real calls with summaries off, then the same set with summaries on. For each call, a CSR opens three things: the recording, the Epic activity, and the client record that popped. Score four outcomes only: right client / right note, right client / wrong note, wrong client, and no write. Do not score "the AI sounded good." Sound is not an activity.

If the wrong Epic client opens even once, stop the write-back. An activity on the wrong account is an E&O event, not a coaching opportunity. Certification does not change that. Applied's promise is a faster, no-extra-Applied-purchase activation. It is not a promise that Lightspeed's screen-pop is correct on your book.

Keep Sonant off this test unless you have already written the split: Lightspeed owns the desk phone; Sonant owns after-hours; EcoLink is not in the room. Two certified phone products on one DID will produce two activities or none. The state of insurance automation is the same warning in another costume: two tools writing the same AMS field is not "integration." It is a merge conflict.

Time the CSR. If adding the summary lengthens the after-call work because they now reconcile the transcript with the recording, you have added a pass. Lightspeed's 8-minute support claim and 99.999% uptime claim are first-party operations figures. They do not time your after-call work. Your call tally does.

Keep a written stop: one wrong account, or one missing cancellation statement that should have been in the activity, and the write pauses. A paused write is a successful control. An always-on summary that no one opens is not a deployment. Retention-marketing tools in Agency Revolution versus Better will happily mail a household from a bad note. Do not hand them the note until a person has seen the recording.

If Applied later publishes a certified-vendor quality metric other than "completed onboarding," read it. Until then, the only class-level number that belongs in a board deck is 11 inaugural vendors, of which Lightspeed is 1, and your own call tally.

Signal vs Speculation

Demonstrated signal: as of August 12, 2026, Applied launched Vendor Certification and named 11 inaugural companies including Lightspeed and Sonant. As of August 20, 2026, Lightspeed said its Epic integrations are in that first class, that activation is faster than a standard build, and that no extra Applied purchase is required. Applied's directory describes Lightspeed as VoIP plus AI transcription, summaries, and sentiment on Epic and EZLynx. Lightspeed's own site states 99.999% uptime and NOVA/NOVA Pro as the intelligence layer. Sonant, on a separate page, claims 5–10 day Epic standups and write-back. Feature verbs on the August 20 wire are Lightspeed's.

Our read: over 12–36 months, Epic agencies will turn on one certified phone path to kill the extra Applied SKU, then argue internally about whether the PBX or a receptionist agent should own after-hours. Some will run Lightspeed for desks and Sonant for overflow and never document the split. Empty activities and unreviewed summaries still do not count. Independent shops not on Epic will keep hanging phones on HawkSoft, EZLynx, or a cell. Certification does not travel.

Frequently asked questions

What is Lightspeed Voice Applied Epic?

It is Lightspeed's certified integration with Applied Epic, so a Lightspeed phone system can connect caller data, call activity, and conversation insights to the AMS without an extra Applied integration purchase.

Did Applied or Lightspeed announce it first?

Applied named Lightspeed in the inaugural class on August 12, 2026. Lightspeed's PRWeb release is dated August 20, 2026.

Is this the same as Sonant on Epic?

No. Sonant is a voice AI receptionist and call companion that reads and writes Epic. Lightspeed is a VoIP platform with NOVA intelligence. Both are in the first certified class.

Does certified mean the phone service is free?

No. It means Applied does not require an additional purchase to activate the certified integration. Lightspeed still prices its own service.

What should an agency test first?

Whether the correct Epic client opens on ring, and whether a reviewed activity matches the recording. Do not start with automated outbound.

Can a shop that is not on Applied Epic use this certification?

No. Certification is an Applied program. Lightspeed still lists other AMS joins on its integrations page; those are separate products.

How should a team plug this into work they already run?

As a model swap on a bounded call-logging step they already review, with the same owner and a stop button. The AMS stays the record.

If you already route inbound conversations, summaries, and exception lists through automated steps, see how an agentic workflow can attach the recording to the account and wait for a person. US Tech Automations is the homepage for that routing layer, not an AMS.
