NowCerts Alternatives: 4 Picks for 2026
Leaving NowCerts is a partner-level decision about where policies, downloads, certificates, producer splits, and the client file will live after cutover.
The four products insurance agencies already see next to NowCerts are Applied Epic, HawkSoft, Vertafore AMS360, and EZLynx. This page names those four, and no others.
None of the four publishes a public price. Write quote only on the commercial terms, then ask about seats, modules, locations, conversion scope, and contract length.
Independent agents place 62% of U.S. P&C premium. That is the channel this shortlist is built for.
TL;DR: Pick Applied Epic if you need one browser AMS for P&C and Benefits across branches and you will live in the Applied family. Pick HawkSoft if you want a privately owned vendor, a desktop-plus-cloud file, and published 30-day commercial terms. Pick Vertafore AMS360 if accounting, carrier download, and a Vertafore portal already match how the office runs. Pick EZLynx if producers need native personal-lines rating in the same system as the policy file. Do not treat US Tech Automations as a fifth AMS; attach it after the AMS choice to run the certificate and claims-status queue the AMS will not close by itself.
How we evaluated
We scored each product the way a partner defends a switch: buyer fit, what the vendor publishes, what conversion does to the book, and what still has to be automated around the AMS.
Product claims come from the vendor pages we opened. Industry scale comes from regulators and a trade body. A cell we cannot source reads "not published." A vendor with no public price reads "quote only," and we print no figure.
| Criterion | What we looked at | What fails the test |
|---|---|---|
| Buyer fit | Staff size, lines (P&C vs Benefits), locations | A mid-market stack sold as a two-person AMS |
| Policy file | Lifecycle, downloads, documents, activity | Rekeying every endorsement |
| Rating and submissions | Native rater vs partner vs not published | A second login for every personal-lines quote |
| Accounting | Commissions, GL, producer splits, recon | Spreadsheet close after every statement |
| Client self-service | Portal, certificates, ID cards, billing | CSR phone time on status the portal should answer |
| Commercial terms | Public price, term, data-exit language | A number we cannot source |
| Conversion | Vendor-described migration, dual-run, training | A go-live date with no file map |
Source: evaluation rubric for this page. Applied Epic, HawkSoft, Vertafore AMS360, and EZLynx publish no list price.
The industry around that rubric is a payroll event when conversion goes wrong: according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2,935,600 people worked in insurance carriers and related activities in July 2026 (preliminary). Most independent agencies in this shortlist are small firms, and according to the SBA Office of Advocacy, 99.9% of U.S. businesses are small.
We did not score which logo is more famous. We scored whether a partner can explain, in one sitting, why this AMS and not the other three.
Who each product is actually for
A shortlist of four only helps if each row has a real buyer. If two products are close for your book, they are close; pick on conversion, accounting, and which family you want to live in.
1. Applied Epic
Applied Epic is Applied Systems' browser AMS for growth-minded mid-size and enterprise independent agencies that want P&C and Benefits in one file.
Applied describes Epic as the system where all roles, locations, and lines sit together, with native work for prospecting, pipeline, market access, personal-lines and commercial quoting and submissions, accounting and digital payments, reporting, and policy management. The July product notes add agency-bill reconciliation inside Applied Recon.
Epic is the pick when the office thinks in branches, producer hierarchies, and a Benefits book that should not live in a second database, and when CSR24 is the portal you want on the same spine.
It is not the pick for a two-producer personal-lines shop that mainly needs a comparative rater. That buyer is usually looking at EZLynx, which is also an Applied product. Say that in the partner meeting: Epic and EZLynx share a parent. You are choosing a tier inside Applied, not a second vendor.
2. HawkSoft
HawkSoft is the privately owned AMS for independent agencies that want personal and commercial policy work, retention alerts, and accounting without joining Applied or Vertafore.
HawkSoft's AMS page is specific on commercial terms: the sales agreement does not require a term-based commitment beyond 30 days, and the vendor says it does not charge data-extraction fees if you leave. That is not a price. It is a contract shape. Ask for the current agreement and confirm those clauses in writing.
The product is a native Windows desktop app for the full feature set, with a browser login for client and policy view, logs, tasks, reporting, trust accounting, commission management, carrier download, and user setup. Staff who live in the file stay in the desktop; producers on the road use the browser.
Vendor retention is public: according to HawkSoft, agencies stay an average of 18 years. Treat that as a vendor claim, then ask for the conversion specialist workflow. HawkSoft's conversion page is the only one of the four that describes a three-step migrate, train, and final-copy cutover in public.
3. Vertafore AMS360
Vertafore AMS360 is the AMS for agencies that want policy lifecycle, agency accounting, and Vertafore's surrounding tools (WorkSmart, InsurLink, AgencyOne) in one family.
Vertafore's AMS360 page centers on three office jobs: service (bind to renewal, carrier download of policies, endorsements, claims, and renewals, mass certificates), accounting (billing, invoicing, producer splits, general ledger), and leadership reporting. Velocity AI agents sit on top: an Email Agent and a Reconciliation Agent, with vendor-stated time-saved figures on that page.
AMS360 is the pick when the pain is month-end and carrier statements, not "we need a rater in the same tab," and when InsurLink is already the portal you want. InsurLink lists AMS360 as a native management-system integration.
It is close to Applied Epic for a multi-location P&C shop. The honest split is family: Applied if Benefits plus Epic Quotes plus CSR24 is the stack; Vertafore if download, GL, and InsurLink are already how the office works. Do not pretend they are distant.
4. EZLynx
EZLynx is Applied's all-in-one AMS for new, newly independent, and growth-focused agencies that need comparative personal-lines rating in the same system as the policy file.
EZLynx's homepage states that more than 100 new agencies choose it every month, that the rater runs more than 7 million quotes per month, and that the comparative rater connects to more than 330 carriers. Those are vendor operating stats, not prices. The management-system page adds native policy work, CRM and marketing, commercial submissions, a patented retention workflow, accounting, and a client portal.
EZLynx is the pick when the NowCerts file is mostly personal lines, the producers live in the rater, and you do not want a second login for every auto and home quote. Applied's product list notes that Epic Quotes Personal Lines uses EZLynx's insurer library.
It is not the pick when Benefits, complex commercial, and multi-entity accounting are the book. That work still points at Epic or AMS360. The EZLynx cross-sell gap after bind is a workflow problem, not an AMS-logo problem; the live recipe is Stop Losing 37% of Cross-Sell Leads: EZLynx Recipe 2026.
Side-by-side comparison

Channel share is the reason this shortlist exists: according to the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, the independent agency channel places 62% of all P&C insurance written in the United States (2025 data in the 2026 report). Homeowners pressure sits under every rater and renewal queue here, and according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, 715 companies wrote homeowners coverage in 2024.
Pros and cons
Pros and cons below are operational. If a con is also true of the system you already have, it is not a reason to stay.
Applied Epic
Pros: One file for P&C and Benefits. Browser access without a desktop install. Native quoting modules and Ivans connectivity described on the product page. Applied Recon now handles agency-bill statements inside the AMS. CSR24 gives insureds a branded portal. APIs and branch hierarchies match an agency that is still acquiring books.
Cons: You are buying a family, not a single screen. Epic Quotes, Indio, Applied Pay, Applied Recon, and CSR24 are connected products you must quote as modules, seats, or bundles. Public commercial terms are quote only. EZLynx sits in the same parent company, which is useful if you might start on EZLynx and later move up, and a concentration risk if you wanted two unrelated vendors.
HawkSoft
Pros: Family-owned since 1995, with a public statement that it has refused acquisition. Public 30-day commercial shape and a public no-extraction-fee claim. Conversion page names a dedicated specialist, an initial conversion for training on your own clients, and a final copy at go-live, with staff working in HawkSoft within 24 hours of that final conversion. Retention Alerts, uprate alerts, batch email from reports, and QuickBooks for operating accounting are named on the AMS page.
Cons: The full file is a Windows desktop app. Browser access is real but partial. Native comparative-rater carrier counts are not published; rating is a partner-API job. Benefits as a first-class AMS book is not published. Quote only still applies to the subscription itself, so you ask for seats, add-ons, and conversion scope even though the term language is more public than the other three.
Vertafore AMS360
Pros: Service, accounting, and leadership reporting are the actual page, not a footnote. Carrier download of policies, endorsements, claims, and renewals is named. Producer splits and a general ledger are named. Velocity AI Email Agent and Reconciliation Agent publish time-saved and accuracy figures on the AMS360 page. InsurLink is the portal path for certificates, ID cards, billing, and claims, with a vendor claim that agencies cut time on certificate or auto-ID requests by 90%.
Cons: Native personal-lines rater carrier counts are not published on the AMS360 page we opened. Benefits as a core AMS book is not published. Public price is quote only. You should assume WorkSmart, InsurLink, and AgencyOne will appear in the same quote, and you should ask which of those are required to get the certificate workflow you think you are buying.
EZLynx
Pros: Native rater plus AMS in one login. Vendor-stated 330+ carriers, 7M+ quotes per month, and 100+ new agencies per month. Pages for new agencies, newly independent shops, growing shops, commercial expansion, and multi-location. Patented retention workflow, CRM, marketing, accounting, and Client Center are in the same product story. Applied's Epic Quotes Personal Lines uses the EZLynx insurer library, so the rater is not an orphan if the agency later looks at Epic.
Cons: Applied owns EZLynx. If the partner wanted out of a large vendor, this is not that move. Benefits and heavy commercial accounting are not the homepage buyer. Public price is quote only; the homepage offers special pricing without a number, and we print none. Cross-sell after bind still needs a workflow outside the rater, which is why the EZLynx recipe post exists.
What switching actually costs
The invoice is quote only. The work is not.
Data. You are moving clients, policies, transactions, documents, notes, and activity. If the conversion drops notes, the CSR is blind on the first claim call. If it drops history, E&O defense gets harder. HawkSoft is the only vendor on this shortlist that publishes a three-step conversion: specialist intake, initial conversion for training on your book, final copy at go-live, then staff working in the new system within 24 hours of that final copy. For Applied Epic, AMS360, and EZLynx, ask for the same map in writing: which objects convert, which archive, which you rekey, and who signs the file-level QA.
Downloads. Carrier download is not a checkbox. After cutover you reconnect IVANS or equivalent feeds, prove a renewal landed, and prove an endorsement did not duplicate. Budget a dual-run window where NowCerts still receives downloads until the new AMS matches a sample of files. None of the four publishes a universal number of days, so do not invent one. Put the sample size in the statement of work: 25 personal-lines files, 25 commercial, every producer code, every billing type.
Certificates and claims status. The AMS will store the policy. The phone will still ring for "did you send the cert" and "where is the claim." InsurLink, CSR24, and EZLynx Client Center each try to push that to self-service. They do not write the exception queue when the portal fails, the additional insured is new, or the carrier status page disagrees with the download. That queue is a concrete workflow: pull the request, match the policy, generate or refuse the cert, log the activity, and close the ticket. US Tech Automations maps that certificate and claims-status queue onto the AMS export so CSRs are not retyping portal status into email. The longer walkthrough is Cut 70% of Claims-Status Calls: Insurance Automation 2026.
Retraining. Action menus, naming, and "where is the activity log" are different in every AMS. HawkSoft's conversion page ties training to the initial converted file, which is the right sequence: train on your clients, not a dummy agency. For the other three, ask how many live files staff will see before go-live, and whether producers and CSRs train on different tracks. A producer who still quotes in a carrier portal on day 10 is not trained; they have a workaround.
The month it takes. Plan for a month of dual-run even when the vendor says the final copy is fast. The AMS can be live while downloads, producer splits, and certificate templates are still wrong. Keep NowCerts read-only after the final copy so nobody posts a new policy in the old system. Name one person who owns "is this file true in both places" for that month. Cycle-time cuts after the AMS is stable are a different project; see Insurance Agency Automation 2026: 30%+ Cycle Cuts.
What to ask in the quote, since no figure may be printed:
| Ask | Why it changes the number | What a usable reply includes |
|---|---|---|
| Named users vs concurrent seats | CSR benches and producer-only logins are not the same | Written definition of a billable user |
| Locations / branches | Multi-entity security and reporting | Branch hierarchy included or extra |
| Modules (rater, portal, recon, benefits, payments) | The demo often shows paid add-ons | Line items, not a bundle nickname |
| Conversion objects | Notes, eDocs, and history drive hours | Object-level map, not "we convert everything" |
| Download reconnects | Each carrier is a project | Named carriers and a test window |
| Training days and who is in the room | Producers vs CSRs vs accounting | Hours by role, not a single classroom day |
| Contract term and data exit | Dual-run and a possible reverse move | Term, termination, and export format |
| Dual-run support | The month after go-live | Named hours for file repair |
Source: quote checklist for this page. All four vendors are quote only; this table prints no prices.
US Tech Automations can sit on the renewal-file export so certificate and claims-status exceptions become tickets instead of inbox folklore. That is not a reason to skip the AMS decision. It is the work that remains after you pick one of the four.
The verdict, and who should pick the other one
There is no single winner. There is a winner for a given book.
Choose Applied Epic if the partner is defending a multi-location P&C-plus-Benefits file, wants a browser AMS, and accepts the Applied family (Epic, EZLynx rater library, CSR24, Applied Recon). Skip Epic if the office is a personal-lines rater shop or if the partner wants a vendor that is not Applied.
Choose HawkSoft if the partner wants a privately owned AMS, published 30-day terms, a conversion specialist on a public page, and a desktop file with browser reach. Skip HawkSoft if you need a native 330-carrier personal-lines rater or a first-class Benefits AMS, neither of which is published as core on the pages we opened.
Choose Vertafore AMS360 if month-end, producer splits, carrier download, and InsurLink certificates are the pain, and the office is already comfortable in Vertafore. Skip AMS360 if the demo you actually needed was a comparative rater, or if Benefits in the same AMS is a hard requirement.
Choose EZLynx if producers live in the rater, the agency is new or growing, and you want AMS plus quotes in one login. Skip EZLynx if you thought you were leaving a large vendor (you are not; Applied owns it) or if commercial accounting and Benefits are the book.
Epic and AMS360 are close for a mid-size P&C shop. Separate them on family and on whether Benefits or Vertafore accounting is the heavier need. HawkSoft and EZLynx are close for a smaller independent shop. Separate them on rater-native vs privately owned desktop, and on whether a 30-day public term matters more than Applied's rater graph.
After the AMS is named, price the workflow that still leaks: certificates, claims status, and cross-sell. That is the US Tech Automations job, quoted on the pricing page, not a fifth management system.
FAQs
Which NowCerts alternative should a small personal-lines shop shortlist first?
EZLynx if the producers need a native comparative rater in the AMS, HawkSoft if they want a privately owned desktop-plus-cloud file and 30-day commercial terms. Applied Epic and AMS360 are built for heavier accounting, branches, and (for Epic) Benefits, which a two-producer personal-lines shop will pay for without using.
Do any of the four publish a price?
No. Applied Epic, HawkSoft, Vertafore AMS360, and EZLynx are quote only on this page. Ask for seats, modules, conversion, downloads, training, and term. EZLynx advertises special pricing without a number; we print none.
Are Applied Epic and EZLynx different companies?
No. Applied Systems lists both as agency management systems. Epic is the mid-size and enterprise AMS with P&C and Benefits. EZLynx is the growth AMS with the native rater. Epic Quotes Personal Lines uses EZLynx's insurer library. A partner who wants two unrelated vendors should look at HawkSoft or AMS360 against one Applied product, not Epic against EZLynx.
How long does a conversion take?
HawkSoft publishes a specialist-led process with an initial conversion for training and a final copy at go-live, after which staff work in HawkSoft within 24 hours of that final copy. Applied Epic, AMS360, and EZLynx do not publish a universal calendar on the pages we opened. Plan a dual-run month for downloads, certificates, and producer splits regardless of logo, and put object-level QA in the statement of work.
What should we ask AMS360 that we would not ask HawkSoft?
Ask which of WorkSmart, InsurLink, AgencyOne, and the Velocity AI agents are in the quote, and whether certificate self-service requires InsurLink. Ask how agency-bill reconciliation is done (Vertafore names a Reconciliation Agent with a 90% time-saved figure and 200+ carriers on the AMS360 page). HawkSoft's public questions are the 30-day term, data-exit fees, QuickBooks for operating books, and the conversion specialist map.
Can we keep NowCerts as a read-only archive after go-live?
Yes, and you should until downloads and a sample of files match. Freeze new-business entry in NowCerts on the final-copy date. Name an owner for "this file is true in the new AMS." Turn NowCerts off only after certificate templates, producer codes, and a renewal cycle have been proven.
Where do claims-status calls go if the new portal does not kill them?
They go to an exception queue. Portals (CSR24, InsurLink, Client Center) take the simple ID-card and cert requests. The rest still needs a ticket: match the policy, pull carrier status, write the client, log the AMS activity. That is the claims-status automation path, not a reason to pick a different logo.
Is US Tech Automations a NowCerts alternative?
No. It is the workflow layer you attach after you pick one of the four AMS products, especially for certificates, claims status, and cross-sell follow-up. See pricing for how that work is scoped.
Key Takeaways
The four NowCerts alternatives on this page are Applied Epic, HawkSoft, Vertafore AMS360, and EZLynx. Do not add a fifth AMS to the table.
All four are quote only. Print no price. Ask seats, modules, conversion objects, downloads, training, and term.
715 insurers wrote homeowners coverage in 2024. Personal-lines pressure is a rater and renewal problem, which is why EZLynx's native rater and Epic Quotes exist.
Applied Epic and EZLynx share a parent. Treat that as a family choice, not vendor diversity.
HawkSoft is the only one of the four with a public 30-day term shape and a public three-step conversion write-up, including staff working in the system within 24 hours of final copy.
Epic and AMS360 are close for mid-size P&C. Split on Benefits-plus-Applied vs Vertafore accounting and InsurLink.
Conversion cost is data, retraining, and a dual-run month, not the subscription line the vendor will not print.
Certificates and claims-status exceptions still sit outside every AMS. Map that queue on purpose.
Use US Tech Automations after the AMS is named, then price the work on the pricing page.
