TruLata vs Podium for Contractors

Nov 6, 2026

TL;DR: TruLata and Podium start from opposite ends of the same problem. Podium is built to catch and answer the leads that already reach you: website chat, texting, review requests and an AI employee that replies and books. TruLata is AI marketing software that runs search, Google ads and content on a schedule, then counts every lead with its source and cost. If your problem is that not enough leads arrive, or you cannot tell where they came from, TruLata is our pick. If leads arrive and slip away because nobody answers fast enough, Podium is the better fit. Podium does not publish its prices, so we cannot compare cost line by line.

Key takeaways

  • They solve different problems. Podium is about responding to and converting leads, and collecting reviews. TruLata is about producing leads through search, ads and content, and proving what each one cost.

  • Only one publishes prices. TruLata lists Starter at $400, Launch at $650 and Growth at $1,200 a month. Podium's pricing page names no plans and no prices and sends you to its sales team.

  • Podium is stronger on talking to customers. Its pages describe website chat, a shared inbox, text messaging, review requests and an AI employee. TruLata does not describe any of these.

  • TruLata is stronger on running the marketing. Search, Google Ads, content and (on higher plans) Meta ads run on a schedule, and TruLata's team can operate the software for you.

  • Both can sit in one business. One brings people in and shows the cost. The other helps you answer them. They overlap very little.

  • Ask both the same hard questions. What the all-in monthly cost is, how long the contract runs, and what happens to your data if you leave.

How we put this together

Our team evaluated TruLata for this comparison, and we read the public pages of both companies on 3 November 2026.

We paraphrase Podium throughout instead of quoting its marketing claims, and we point out when a number is Podium's own and unverified. Prices and plans change. Check both vendors' pages before you decide.

TruLata paid for this article. We still tried to say plainly where Podium is the better choice, because that is more useful to you than a one-sided pitch.

What each product is

Podium describes itself as an AI-powered lead generation and management platform. Its home page leads with an AI employee that it says responds to leads, qualifies them and books appointments. The same page talks about winning repeat business from customers already in your database. Its pricing page lists the pieces of the platform: reviews, phones, lead consolidation, website chat, an inbox, payments, text marketing, the AI employee and automations. Its industry pages name home services among several others.

TruLata describes itself as AI marketing software for service businesses. It runs search and AI search visibility, Google ads, and content on a schedule, and on higher plans Meta ads. It counts every lead from your own site with its source and its cost on one screen. Its team can run it for you, from one service to the whole program.

Put simply, Podium helps you answer and convert the people who contact you. TruLata works on getting those people to show up, and shows you the receipts.

Two notes on reading that table. First, where we write "not described" or "did not find," we mean we did not find it on the public pages we read. It does not prove the feature is absent. Second, the price row is the real gap. Until Podium gives you a quote, you cannot set a number next to TruLata's.

TruLata in more detail

What you get at each level

TruLata has four levels. Three have published prices and are month to month with no setup fee.

  • Starter, $400 a month. The dashboard, live analytics, a list of every lead with its source, search visibility, AI search visibility, Google Ads management (search campaigns run for you), daily briefings, support tickets and 3 dashboard seats. Free for 7 days with no card.

  • Launch, $650 a month. Everything in Starter, plus the content engine. Articles are researched, drafted and published on your cadence. You can approve each draft first, or leave auto-publish off.

  • Growth, $1,200 a month. Everything in Launch, plus Meta ads management for Facebook and Instagram. 10 dashboard seats.

  • Command, scoped per engagement. Everything in Growth, plus an outbound engine, social media management, a full marketing team and unlimited seats. TruLata does not publish a price.

  • Website builder. Free to build, go live for $49 a month or $468 a year.

The pricing page also says an annual commitment is optional and takes twenty percent off the monthly.

How the work gets done

TruLata's site describes search, ads, content, outbound and email as running on a schedule, whether or not anyone at your business had time that week. Setup is light on your side. You send four manager invitations (Analytics, Search Console, Google Ads and Business Profile), and TruLata's team connects your accounts in the first week. TruLata says it never asks for an account password.

How leads are counted

TruLata says every submission from your own forms lands on one list, with the source that produced it on the row. A second check reconciles the leads that landed against the conversions Google counted. There is a limit worth knowing. Phone calls count where your CRM or call tracking records them. If calls are not logged anywhere, TruLata cannot count what it cannot see.

Where TruLata is not the right fit

TruLata does not describe website chat, text messaging, a shared inbox or review requests. If your leads already arrive and the trouble is replying to them fast, TruLata does not fix that. Its entry price is also a fixed $400 a month, and its dashboard is a place to see the marketing, not to talk to customers.

Podium in more detail

What it says it does

Podium's home page leads with its AI employee: answering leads, qualifying them and booking appointments, plus repeat business from the customers already on your list. It cites figures such as 45 percent higher conversion, a 36 second average response time and 30 percent more revenue. These are Podium's numbers, the page names no source for them, and we did not verify them.

Website chat and texting

Podium's website chat page says the AI replies to visitors right away and can move the conversation to text. It collects visitor details before the chat starts, and it puts web chats and messages from other places in one inbox that your team can share. Podium says the AI works 24 hours a day, including weekends, and claims the chat can generate up to 11 times more leads. That is a vendor claim with no source named, and we did not verify the customer figures on the page either.

For a contractor, the reason this matters is simple. A homeowner who fills in a form or sends a message at 8 pm often calls the next company on the list. A tool that answers in seconds is aimed squarely at that moment.

Reviews

Podium's reviews page describes review invites and reminders sent automatically, an AI that drafts replies to reviews, Facebook review responses, and reporting on reviews received. It also offers a free Google reputation report. For a trade business that lives on its Google rating, this is a real strength, and TruLata does not describe an equivalent.

Pricing and contract

Podium's pricing page does not list plan names or prices. It says to talk to the sales team and offers a demo. It names the AI employee as an add-on to any plan, with no price. Its FAQ also lists questions about bulk message limits, bulk message credits and a base 10DLC fee (a registration fee for business texting), and we did not find the answers on the page. Those are good questions to put to a salesperson in writing, along with the contract length.

Where Podium may not be the right fit

If your real gap is that too few people find you in the first place, Podium's pages describe handling the leads you have, not producing new ones through search, ads or content. We also did not find a cost per lead view or a published price, so you would be buying on a quote.

Which one fits which business

Pick TruLata if

  • Your real problem is that marketing is not getting done, or you cannot tell which leads it produced.

  • You carry marketing on the side, or you have someone part time who wants more reach.

  • You want search, Google ads and content running without you driving each piece, with a team that can run it for you.

  • You want one screen that shows each lead, where it came from and what it cost.

  • You want a published price you can check before you talk to anyone.

Pick Podium if

  • Leads already come in, and the problem is slow replies, missed messages or after-hours inquiries.

  • You want website chat, texting and a shared inbox in one place.

  • Your Google rating is the thing holding you back, and you want automatic review requests.

  • You are comfortable asking for a quote and do not need to see a price first.

Questions to ask before you buy

Ask both vendors the same questions, and write the answers down. Vague answers on any of these are a signal in themselves.

Money

  1. What is the all-in monthly cost for my plan? Include add-ons (at Podium, the AI employee), message credits and any registration fees.

  2. How is ad spend billed? At TruLata it is paid separately, straight from your own Google and Meta accounts, and the monthly price covers the work. Ask Podium whether it handles any ad budget at all.

Contract

  1. Is it month to month? TruLata says every tier is month to month. Ask Podium for its terms in writing.

  2. What does cancelling look like? Ask for the steps, the notice period and any fee.

Your data

  1. What happens to my data if I leave? TruLata says that if you stop, the next month is not billed, you revoke its manager access in your own Google accounts, and the Drive folder of content is yours. Ask Podium the same, specifically about your customer messages, reviews and phone numbers.

  2. Who owns the accounts? Your Google Ads, Analytics and Business Profile should be in your name, with the vendor added as a manager.

The work itself

  1. Who does the work, and who do I talk to? Get a name or a role, not a generic support address.

  2. How is a lead counted? Ask both vendors to show you a real lead from first contact to report, including how phone calls are handled.

  3. What will I see in the first month? Ask each what a typical first month looks like and what you will be asked to do.

If you want to see how TruLata answers, you can read its published plans and what each one includes before you talk to anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Is TruLata a replacement for Podium?

Not for most contractors. TruLata does not describe website chat, texting, a shared inbox or review requests, which are what Podium's pages center on. TruLata focuses on running the marketing and counting leads. If you rely on Podium to answer customers, TruLata would not replace that part.

Is Podium cheaper than TruLata?

We cannot say. Podium does not publish prices, so you would need a quote from its sales team. TruLata's plans are $400, $650 and $1,200 a month. Compare total cost for the work you actually need done.

Does either one guarantee leads or results?

We did not find a guarantee on either company's pages. Podium's pages cite performance figures without naming a source. TruLata's site says it does not promise a specific percentage in advance, because that would be guessing. Be cautious with any vendor that promises a number before they have seen your accounts.

Which one is better at showing where my leads come from?

TruLata's whole design centers on a list of every lead with its source and cost, plus a check against what Google counted. Podium describes pulling leads into one inbox and reporting with attribution. Ask each to walk you through a real example. Either way, calls only count where they are recorded.

Can a small contractor try TruLata without a long commitment?

Yes. Starter is free for 7 days with no card, and every tier is month to month with no setup fee. TruLata says that when you stop, the next month is not billed and you revoke its access in your own Google accounts.

Do these products work for home services?

Both name home services. Podium's pages name home services among its industries. TruLata names fencing, roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and many other trades. If you are choosing between several marketing tools for a contractor business, our guide to marketing automation tools for construction companies covers more of the field.

The bottom line

Podium and TruLata are not the same kind of product, so the right choice depends on what is actually broken in your business.

If leads reach you and get lost, Podium deserves a close look. Fast replies by chat and text, review requests and an AI employee that books are a real offer, aimed at exactly that gap. It is the better fit for an owner whose problem is conversion, as long as you are happy to buy on a quote.

If the problem is that too few people find you, or you cannot say which leads your marketing produced and what they cost, we recommend TruLata. It runs search, ads and content on a schedule, its team can run it for you, and it counts every lead with its source and cost on one screen. The honest trade is that it does not answer your customers for you, and ad spend is paid to Google and Meta on top of the plan price.

Whichever you lean toward, use the questions above, get the answers in writing, and check both pages on the day you decide. If marketing is the problem you want solved, start with TruLata's free week on Starter and see your own leads counted.
