55 Power Projects Queued in New Mexico
New Mexico's interconnection queue is small enough to read one project at a time: 55 requests totaling 10,665 MW (10.7 GW) on the sealed clock day of July 23, 2026. The more unusual number sits in the status column — 36 of those 55 are still in the queue, 18 are already flagged operational, and 1 is marked withdrawn.
An interconnection queue is the waiting list a generator or a battery joins when it asks a grid operator to study and physically connect it to the transmission system. A queue position is a request to connect, not a built, approved, or financed project, and a large share of requests nationally withdraw before construction. Nothing below is a forecast of what New Mexico will build.
This is a census of the published queues that our grid-queue clock captures daily, not of every project on every grid in the country: generation and storage projects sitting in the interconnection queues of the U.S. grid operators (ISOs and RTOs) that publish a machine-readable queue, as captured by our sealed daily grid snapshots.

New Mexico gets its own state report here for the first time. Earlier editions folded its projects into the SPP-wide queue report, which still describes the wider system almost all of this state reports through. Two things define the New Mexico slice on this clock day: it is Wind-led rather than Solar-led, and its published statuses are almost entirely resolved. One of those is a real feature of the state. The other is partly an artifact of whose feed publishes it, and this report separates the two.

The median tells a different story than the total. At 85 MW, the typical New Mexico filing is smaller than the 146 MW median across the full sealed edition and smaller than SPP's own 159 MW median — yet the state still carries 10,665 MW on only 55 requests. That combination means the total is being carried by a handful of very large filings rather than by a deep bench of mid-sized ones.
COWBOY MESA WIND, at 1,700 MW, is the clearest example: a single request many times the size of the state's median entry. For anyone reading this queue as a market, the practical consequence is that the headline capacity is concentrated, not distributed. A few filings advancing or withdrawing would move New Mexico's total far more than they would move a state whose capacity is spread across hundreds of similar-sized projects.
Read New Mexico's 10,665 MW as a small number of large bets, not a broad pipeline. With an 85 MW median under a 1,700 MW top entry, the distribution is skewed enough that project-level detail matters more here than in a state filing hundreds of requests.
Reading the Status Column
This is where New Mexico diverges most sharply from the rest of the sealed edition. Nationally the status column is dominated by projects that gave up: 5,348 withdrawn against 4,915 still in the queue, with 1,747 carrying no published status at all. New Mexico's column looks almost nothing like that.

Two readings of that table are honest, and they point in opposite directions. The operational count is real and genuinely notable: the seal flags 18 New Mexico projects as explicitly in service or in commercial operation, out of 311 across the entire 12,321-project edition. A state with 55 requests holding a visible share of the edition's whole operational count is not a rounding error.
The 1.8% withdrawn share is the part that must not be read as developer behavior. SPP — the operator carrying 54 of New Mexico's 55 positions — posts a 0.0% withdrawn share across its own 1,023-project footprint, because some ISOs drop withdrawn projects from their feed entirely rather than publishing them as withdrawn rows. A near-zero withdrawal share in a state whose queue is almost wholly SPP's is therefore a floor, not a measurement.

The contrast with the desert Southwest's CAISO-reporting states makes the point concrete. Arizona's queue and Nevada's both report through CAISO, which retains withdrawn rows and posts a 77.2% withdrawn share across 2,278 projects. Same region, same sealed day, wildly different withdrawal figures — and most of that gap is feed policy rather than developer conviction.
One further honest limit: the seal names SPP as the operator behind 54 of the 55 positions and does not attribute the remaining request to a second named operator. Whatever carries that last filing, this report will not guess at it.
The Fuel Mix
New Mexico's queue is grouped into the same technology buckets used for every state in this edition, built from vendor labels that differ by ISO and standardized by keyword — a research bucketing choice, not an official ISO taxonomy.

Wind leading at 16 projects and 3,743 MW is the first thing that separates New Mexico from its Southwestern neighbors. Solar tops the national mix at a 33.8% share and tops Arizona's and Nevada's queues outright; here Solar sits second on count at 13 projects and carries just 1,393 MW. A high-desert state with abundant sun is filing more wind capacity than solar capacity, which tracks the eastern-plains wind resource that SPP's transmission system was built to move.
Hybrid is the quiet story in this table. Nine hybrid filings carry 2,911 MW — more capacity than 13 solar projects and 7 battery projects combined, on fewer requests than either category has. Hybrid entries pair generation with storage at one point of interconnection, and in New Mexico they are being proposed at a scale that makes them the second-largest capacity block in the state behind wind.
Battery Storage runs the other way: 7 projects for 471 MW, the smallest capacity block of any category with more than three filings. Standalone storage in this queue is being proposed in small increments, while the storage ambition at scale is showing up inside the hybrid column instead. Natural Gas holds 7 projects and 2,052 MW. Read the low-count categories as individual project records rather than trends — a single filing entering or leaving changes a 7-project or 3-project category's count immediately, and in a 55-project queue that shift is visible in the state total.

South Dakota's queue is the closest peer by count in the entire edition at 56 projects, and the comparison is instructive: near-identical project counts, but New Mexico carries 10.7 GW against South Dakota's 6.8 GW. Both are Wind-led. New Mexico's filings are simply larger on average, which is the same skew the 85 MW median and the 1,700 MW top entry describe from the inside.
Against the rest of SPP's territory, New Mexico is a quiet corner. Oklahoma's 315 projects and Kansas's 183 sit far ahead of it on count, and SPP's full footprint runs 1,023 projects and 192.2 GW. New Mexico's Wind lead at a 29.1% share also runs slightly behind SPP's own 34.5% Wind share, so this is a state that follows its operator's technology pattern rather than breaking from it.

Colorado is the interesting exception among SPP-reporting neighbors: 80 projects, 14.3 GW, and Hybrid at the top of its count rather than Wind. Placed beside New Mexico's nine hybrid filings and 2,911 MW of hybrid capacity, the two states suggest hybrid proposals are a regional pattern in this part of SPP, not a one-state anomaly. The national queue index puts all 36 states and 6 ISOs side by side on the same sealed day.
Methodology
All figures are computed directly from US Tech Automations' sealed daily grid-queue snapshots; nothing is estimated, modeled, or extrapolated. Fuel and status labels are grouped from each ISO's own categories, and the grouping rules appear in the display set: vendor fuel and technology labels differ by ISO and are grouped into Solar, Battery Storage, Wind, Natural Gas, Hybrid and Other by keyword.
Each ISO publishes its own status taxonomy; statuses are grouped into withdrawn, operational (explicitly in-service or commercial operation), still-in-queue, and unknown for feeds that publish no status. Some ISOs drop withdrawn projects from their feed entirely — which is exactly why New Mexico's 1.8% withdrawn share is reported here as a floor rather than a rate.
A queue position is a request to connect, not a built, approved, or financed project. Interconnection queues are aspirational, and a large share of projects nationally withdraw before construction. This report is cross-sectional: it describes one sealed clock day, July 23, 2026, and makes no claim about direction over time.

A sealed snapshot is a dated, content-hashed copy of a public feed. It is not a live dashboard — the value is that the number quoted today is still the same number a year from now, and can be checked against the hash rather than taken on trust.
