7 Semrush Alternatives Ranked by Published Cost 2026

Sep 4, 2026

A Semrush alternative is a research, rank-tracking, or crawl product you can actually model against Semrush's public SEO plan of $139/mo monthly ($117.33/mo annual) fetched from the vendor on 2026-09-04. Workflow automation is not in that aisle; it sits above the export.

TL;DR: Ahrefs Lite is $129/mo. SE Ranking Core is $129/mo monthly ($103.20 annual). Moz Standard is $99/mo ($79 yearly). SpyFu Basic is $39/mo ($29 annual). Mangools lists Basic/Premium/Agency but did not render dollars in our fetch. Similarweb is contact-vendor. Pick on keyword caps and seats, not on a logo.

Why People Leave Semrush

Teams leave because of seat math (extra users from $45/mo), because they wanted a cheaper rank tracker, or because they needed Ahrefs' backlink index instead of another all-in-one. They should not leave because a workflow vendor "replaces SEO tools." That sentence is how you lose the index.

ALTERNATIVE pages earned: 13.7% according to US Tech Automations (2026) on 12,514 pages counted 2026-08-24.

7 Best titles earned: 25.5% vs 14.0% on that count (247 vs 322 pages).

According to SE Ranking (published 2026-06-30), their Ahrefs-alternatives article names 13 products (SE Ranking, SpyFu, Semrush, Majestic, Similarweb, Search Atlas, Moz, Mangools, BuzzSumo, Surfer SEO, Google Tools, Screaming Frog, SEO PowerSuite). This page is the Semrush-shaped cut of that universe, with prices we fetched ourselves.

The Seven Alternatives

Best fit: SEOs who will use Site Explorer weekly. Limitations: extra users $40; Enterprise $1,499. Not cheaper on Advanced ($449) than Semrush Advanced ($549), but not a $10 decision either.

SE Ranking — best keyword cap per dollar at entry

Best fit: teams that need 2,000 daily keywords at $129. Limitations: confirm GEO add-ons ($89 monthly list on the AI Search add-on) before calling it a full Semrush One replacement.

Moz — best sub-$100 suite with AI visibility bolted on

Best fit: small businesses at $79 yearly. Limitations: 300 keywords; extra seats $49, which is more than Ahrefs Lite's $40.

SpyFu — best cheap competitive/PPC-plus-SEO look

Best fit: people who live in competitor ads and can live with Basic's 10k row caps. Limitations: Pro+AI jumps to $119 after a $59 first month on monthly.

Mangools — best "simple suite" if you confirm dollars at checkout

Best fit: beginners who want KWFinder-shaped UX. Limitations: our fetch did not extract prices; do not invent $29.90 from memory.

Similarweb — best traffic-estimation aisle, not an SEO clone

Best fit: market-share questions. Limitations: contact vendor; different job than Site Audit.

Google tools — best $0 complement, not a Semrush replacement

GSC + Keyword Planner are free. They do not replace a backlink index.

Agency Seat Math

Three users on Semrush SEO: $139 + 2×$45 = $229/mo if both extras are at the $45 floor (confirm current add-on). Three users on Ahrefs Lite: $129 + 2×$40 = $209/mo. Three users on Moz Standard: $99 + 2×$49 = $197/mo but only 300 keywords. Three users on SpyFu Team/Agency: $249/mo monthly with 5 seats included. A proposed US Tech Automations workflow does not change those seats. It would take a Semrush or Ahrefs export of 500 keywords, open tickets for the 15 that dropped 10 positions, and hold CMS title changes for a human — using the rank-tracker keyword as the key, not as a live customer result.

US Tech Automations is not a seventh SEO suite. It is the queue after the CSV.

Who This Is For

SEO leads comparing a real Semrush invoice to public alternatives, with a keyword cap and a seat count in hand.

Red flags: Shopping "alternatives" to avoid doing the work. Replacing Semrush with a writer. Skipping extra-seat math.

DIY After the Export

Zapier can watch a Google Sheet of rank changes and Slack them. Retries exist if you build them. You still need the data suite. The workflow layer's proposed difference is a durable hold on title-tag writes.

When NOT to use US Tech Automations

If switching Ahrefs Lite at $129 solves the bill and the team lives in Site Explorer, stop there. If Moz at $79 yearly is enough for 300 keywords, you do not have an orchestration problem. If Semrush already pushes reports to Looker and nobody copies CSV by hand, a second layer is idle software.

Common Buying Mistakes

Switching Without Losing History

Export before you churn. Semrush Position Tracking and Site Audit history will not automatically appear in Ahrefs Rank Tracker. You need a CSV of keywords, tags, locations, and current positions dated the day you leave. SE Ranking advertises historical data on Growth ("all time") versus Core (6 months) — if history is why you are leaving Semrush, Core's 6-month window may be the wrong SKU.

Re-track, do not "trust the new tool's first pull." For 500 keywords, expect a week of noisy positions while the new crawler settles. Moz Standard's 300-keyword cap means you must cut 200 terms if you are on Semrush SEO's 500. Do that cut on paper: branded, money, and competitor terms stay; vanity terms go.

Seats are a migration tax. Training three people on Ahrefs Site Explorer is not included in the $40 extra-user fee. Budget 3 hours per person. SpyFu's UI is faster for PPC people and slower for technical SEOs; do not move a technical team to Basic at $39 to save $100 and then lose two days a week.

API and Looker connections break. Semrush Advanced is the API tier on the card we fetched ($549 monthly). Ahrefs Lite already includes API/MCP. If your dashboard is a Semrush Looker connector, price the rebuild before you celebrate $10 of Lite savings.

Projects: Semrush SEO includes 5 websites. Ahrefs Lite includes 5 projects. Moz Standard includes 3 campaigns. An agency with 8 clients does not fit Moz Standard without extra campaigns at $10/mo each (Moz lists $10/mo per additional campaign). That add-on can erase the $99 vs $139 gap.

Keep GSC connected everywhere. It is the only history that is not a vendor hostage. If you are angry at Semrush, you can still verify the site in Ahrefs, SE Ranking, and Moz and import GSC. That import is the continuity layer.

Do not run two paid suites for "a month of overlap" unless you have a named test. Overlap at $139 + $129 is $268. A 14-day Ahrefs trial plus a Semrush cancel-at-period-end is cheaper.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest Semrush alternative?

SpyFu Basic at $29/mo annual is the lowest public suite price in this set. It is not feature-equal. Moz Standard at $79 yearly is the cheapest "classic SEO suite" rung we fetched.

Is Ahrefs cheaper than Semrush?

Lite $129 vs SEO $139 monthly is a $10 gap. Starter/Pro+/Advanced Semrush ($199/$299/$549) versus Ahrefs Standard/Advanced/Enterprise ($249/$449/$1,499) is not a single yes. Compare the SKU you actually need.

How many keywords do I lose by leaving Semrush SEO?

Semrush SEO includes 500 daily. Ahrefs Lite includes 750 tracked (weekly updates on the grid). Moz Standard includes 300. SE Ranking Core includes 2,000 daily. Count your tracked set before you switch.

Is Similarweb a Semrush alternative?

Only for traffic and market questions. It is not Site Audit.

Can I use only Google tools?

For a tiny site, GSC plus a spreadsheet can be enough. You will not get a backlink index.

When is a workflow layer relevant?

When the CSV already exists and humans still paste title tags. Not as a Semrush replacement.

What You Should Export on Day Zero

Keywords: query, location, device, tags, current position, URL, search volume if you trust the vendor's volume. Semrush volume will not match Ahrefs volume; do not treat a 20% volume swing as a traffic event.

Site Audit: issue type, URL, HTTP status, indexability. Ahrefs Site Audit will recrawl; you want the list of URLs you care about, not Semrush's scores.

Backlinks: referring domain, URL from, URL to, first seen. Ahrefs will disagree. Keep the CSV anyway so you can see what you thought you had.

Content or Position Tracking reports you send to clients: the last PDF. Clients will ask why the new chart looks different. The PDF is the political document.

Integrations: list every Looker, Sheets, and Slack job that reads Semrush. Each one is a rebuild. Ahrefs Lite's API is the technical reason Lite can replace a Semrush Advanced API user; confirm row limits (100 per request on Lite vs unlimited on Enterprise).

If you are moving to SpyFu, export paid keywords and ad history too. That is SpyFu's home turf. If you never look at ads, SpyFu Basic at $39 is a mismatch even when it is cheaper.

If you are moving to Moz, export Brand Authority / DA curiosity separately — those metrics are Moz's religion and will not appear in Semrush the same way.

Google Search Console remains the only overlapping truth. Connect it on the new suite before you cancel the old one.

Write a one-page "why we switched" with the keyword cap and seat math from this article. Future you will thank you when someone asks for Semrush back.

Re-baseline traffic in GSC, not in the new suite's dashboard, for 30 days. Vendor dashboards disagree. If organic clicks are flat and the new rank tracker shows a 15-position swing, believe GSC.

Tell clients the metric that will change. Ahrefs DR is not Semrush Authority Score. Moz DA is a third religion. Pick one client-facing chart and retire the rest for a quarter.

If you kept Semrush for one module (ContentShake, Local, or API), price that module as an add-on or a leftover seat instead of the full SEO plan. A $139 plan for one leftover widget is how "we could not cancel" happens.

Mangools remains a maybe until dollars render at checkout. Do not put a remembered $29.90 on the CFO sheet.

Similarweb stays off the SEO replacement list unless the question is traffic share. Mixing it into a Semrush-alternative bake-off wastes a demo cycle.

When the switch is done, delete unused browser extensions so people stop generating reports in the old tool by habit.

Seat-change log

Record date, old seats, new seats, keyword cap, and monthly USD. That log is the only way to know whether the alternative actually cut the $139 bill. Add a 30-day GSC click delta so a rank-tracker disagreement cannot masquerade as a traffic event. If clicks are up and the new suite looks ugly, keep the suite. If clicks are down and the suite looks pretty, you bought a chart.

Glossary

  • Extra seat: Published add-on per login.

  • All-in-one: Suite that mixes research, track, audit.

  • ALTERNATIVE earn rate: 13.7% on 12,514 pages.

  • Traffic suite: Similarweb's aisle.

Next Step

List your keyword cap and seat count, then price Semrush SEO, Ahrefs Lite, SE Ranking Core, and Moz Standard on the same spreadsheet using the table above. Only then look at workflow.
