QuickBooks Online price increase [What It Changes]
TL;DR
The QuickBooks Online price increase is Intuit's August 1, 2026 list-price jump on Essentials, Plus, and Advanced renewals, leaving Simple Start, Ledger, Lite, and Free untouched.
Standard monthly list moved to $85, $140, and $340. That is +$10, +$25, and +$65 versus the prior $75 / $115 / $275.
Advanced now bundles Bill Pay Elite, which Intuit and Fourlane both value at $540 a year, and Intuit also cites up to $900 a year of industry-solution value.
A two-truck HVAC shop, a ten-person agency, and a solo clinic should open Subscriptions and Billing this week, not guess from a blog table.
Key Takeaways
The increase hits your next billing date on or after August 1, 2026. Annual prepay generally stays at the old rate until the term ends. Newer subscribers often keep six months of price protection.
Intuit's June 26, 2026 product-update post is the company explanation: AI, bank feeds, Conversational Business Intelligence, and Advanced extras are the stated reason for the new list.
Fourlane's August 6 recap published the $75→$85 / $115→$140 / $275→$340 table and the Bill Pay Elite $90→$45 cut from June 8, 2026.
Steph's Books notes Intuit updated the public pricing page on August 3, 2026, and that Workforce payroll per-employee pricing updated July 1, 2026.
Teams already reconciling QBO exports in US Tech Automations can add a plan-and-add-on check as a step, not a new ledger.
What the QuickBooks Online price increase is
The QuickBooks Online price increase is Intuit's higher monthly list on Essentials, Plus, and Advanced for U.S. renewals on or after August 1, 2026, with Simple Start, Ledger, Lite, and Free left at the old rate.
A two-truck HVAC shop feels this as a bigger card charge on the same file that already holds job costs. A ten-person agency feels it if Plus inventory and projects sit unused while Essentials would have been enough. A solo clinic feels it if Advanced now includes Bill Pay Elite the clinic still pays for as a standalone line. The constraint that broke is not a new product. It is the same QBO file at a higher list, plus a bundle that only pays off if you cancel the duplicate.
Intuit's public pricing page now shows Essentials at $85, Plus at $140, and Advanced at $340, with a 50% off for 3 months promo ($42.50 / $70 / $170) and a 30-day free trial. QuickBooks Online's marketing homepage was showing a 90% off for 3 months intro on the same list ($8.50 / $14 / $34). Promo is not the renewal rate. List is.
If you already compare practice-management software or Fathom vs Jirav, this increase is a subscription line, not a reporting-tool swap.
What moved, and what did not
According to Fourlane, the standard monthly prices are $85 for Essentials, $140 for Plus, and $340 for Advanced, up from $75, $115, and $275. Essentials, Plus, and Advanced each moved on August 1.
According to Fourlane, Bill Pay Elite's standalone monthly price decreased from $90 to $45 beginning June 8, 2026, and including Bill Pay Elite with Advanced represents an estimated $540 in annual subscription value. Bill Pay Elite with Advanced is a $540 yearly bundle.
Steph's Books repeats that same list table and says Simple Start, Ledger, Lite, and Free were not touched. It also says the hike applies to owner-billed and accountant-billed subscriptions, and that Intuit updated the public pricing page on August 3, 2026.
Intuit's product-update post, published June 26, 2026, says the new prices apply to renewals on or after August 1, 2026, that recent subscribers keep the old price for the first six months (updated pricing on the seventh invoice), and that you can upgrade, downgrade, manage, or cancel in Subscriptions and Billing. It values Bill Pay Elite with Advanced at $540/year and industry-specific tools for construction and professional services at $900/year.
Firm of the Future's FAQ is the accountant-channel version of the same story. It states Classic View for standard reports ended June 15, custom reports could switch back until August 15, KPIs and dashboards are now in Essentials and Plus, and Intuit Accountant Suite is expanding. It also walks through a split-billing example: a customer on Essentials ($85/mo) with Bill Pay Elite ($45/mo).
The generic Intuit help article is not U.S.-specific: promo discounts hold until they expire, then the new list applies, and re-subscribing after a 30-day gap is current list.
As of August 1, 2026, the increase is live on renewals. As of August 6, 2026, Fourlane's table is the recap most bookkeepers are quoting.
What Intuit says you get for the extra money
Bank feeds: redesigned feeds, batch controls, inline editing, Intelligent Onboarding, auto-categorization on Plus and Advanced (product-update post). Firm of the Future adds PayPal matching, in-feed document requests, customizable columns, and account locking.
Invoicing on Autopilot is in beta on Essentials, Plus, and Advanced, with monthly usage caps.
Conversational Business Intelligence: plain-language questions inside QuickBooks, limited inquiries per plan.
Advanced: reporting and analytics suite, inventory (Item Receipt, Moving Average Cost, Sales Order to Purchase Order), construction and professional-services modules, Continuously Clean Books (AI plus expert checks), and Bill Pay Elite with free standard ACH.
QuickBooks Online Advanced's product page lists 25 users, $340 list / $170 for 3 months at 50% off, 21% average revenue increase among customers who reported growth, 84% who say Advanced gives them data to make better decisions, and about $5K savings in time per year, equivalent to closing books 2.2 days faster on average per month. Construction module is offered free for 12 months for new and existing Advanced customers.
What's new cites 18% average revenue growth with QuickBooks powered by Intuit Intelligence, 74% of customers who say Intuit AI gives a better view of financial health, 4.3/5 from 6,700+ Capterra reviews, and QBO Accountant retirement on December 31, 2026, with a move to Intuit Accountant Suite.
Intuit Accountant Suite states 76% of firms say the suite freed time previously spent on manual tasks, 87% agree ProAdvisor training helps staff build expertise, and Intuit Intelligence is grounded in patterns of 8.7 million businesses and 600K accounting professionals.
Intuit's company page reports 18,200 employees at the end of fiscal 2025, 21 offices in seven countries, $18.83 billion revenue in fiscal 2025, and about 100 million customers across TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp.
QuickBooks payroll says it helps 1.4 million businesses manage payroll and file taxes, and advertises tax-penalty protection up to $25,000. Steph's Books flags that Workforce per-employee pricing updated July 1, 2026, so a higher bill may be payroll, not QBO.
The pricing page also states QuickBooks can be tax deductible according to IRS Publication 946 for section 179 off-the-shelf software. IRS Publication 946 is that depreciation publication.
Fourlane's QBO page is the reseller storefront next to the recap.

According to Steph's Books, updated pricing started showing up on renewals on or after August 1, 2026, not on a single May cutoff. The hike is on your next bill after August 1.
According to Intuit, recent subscribers keep the sign-up price for the first six months, with the new rate on the seventh invoice.
USTA analysis
USTA analysis: annualize the three list deltas Fourlane published, then net Advanced against the $540 Bill Pay Elite value Intuit published.
Input A, from Fourlane: +$10 / +$25 / +$65 a month.
Essentials extra per year = $10 × 12 = $120.
Plus extra per year = $25 × 12 = $300.
Advanced extra per year = $65 × 12 = $780.
Input B, from Intuit and Fourlane: Bill Pay Elite included with Advanced = $540/year.
If an Advanced shop was already paying standalone Elite, net new software cost ≈ $780 − $540 = $240 a year, before ACH fees, payroll, and whether the $900 industry-module value replaces a tool you actually buy. If you were not paying Elite, the $780 is the extra, and the $540 is unused bundle math.
That arithmetic uses only the published list deltas and the published Elite value. It is not your invoice. Open Subscriptions and Billing.
A bookkeeper who already pulls QBO invoices into US Tech Automations can add three fields on renewal week: plan name, next bill date, and whether a standalone Bill Pay line still exists.
Tax prep is still tax prep. Drake vs ProConnect vs UltraTax does not change because QBO list moved.
What a shop should do this week
Open Settings → Subscriptions and Billing. Read the plan, the date, and any promo.
Match the plan to the work. Plus is inventory and project profitability. Many professional-services firms never touch those. Advanced is users, approvals, heavier reporting, and now Bill Pay Elite.
Hunt duplicate software. If Advanced includes Elite, a separate Elite subscription is wasted spend. Fourlane and Intuit both say so.
Do not rip out QBO over a renewal. Steph's Books says switching systems to dodge a price change usually costs more in cleanup than the monthly increase.
If payroll jumped on July 1, do not blame the August QBO list.
US Tech Automations is the home for a renewal-check workflow next to the books. The agentic workflow build is where to park plan, bill date, and add-on status.
Signal vs Speculation
Demonstrated fact (sourced): Essentials, Plus, and Advanced list prices moved to $85, $140, and $340 for renewals on or after August 1, 2026. Simple Start, Ledger, Lite, and Free did not move in this round. Bill Pay Elite standalone dropped to $45 from June 8, 2026, and is expected to be included with Advanced at a stated $540/year value. Six-month protection applies to recent subscribers. Annual prepay generally waits until term end. Intuit's public pricing page was updated August 3, 2026. QBO Accountant is set to retire December 31, 2026, in favor of Intuit Accountant Suite.
Our read: Over 12–36 months, Intuit will keep using AI and bundle math to defend list increases. The shops that lose money are the ones that pay Advanced and Elite and a third AP tool. The shops that break even are the ones that cancel the duplicate and stay on the plan they actually use. We do not treat 50% or 90% intro promos as the renewal rate. We treat $85 / $140 / $340 as the list until Intuit publishes another table.
FAQs
When does the QuickBooks Online price increase hit my file?
On your next billing date on or after August 1, 2026. Annual terms generally wait until the current term ends. Recent subscribers often see it on the seventh invoice.
Which plans moved?
Essentials, Plus, and Advanced. Simple Start, Ledger, Lite, and Free did not move in this announced increase.
Is Bill Pay Elite still a separate subscription on Advanced?
Intuit and Fourlane say Elite is expected to be included with eligible Advanced subscriptions. If you still see a standalone Elite line, that is the duplicate to kill.
Can I keep my old price?
Promos last until they expire. Six-month protection applies to many new subscribers. After that, list is list. Intuit says you can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel in Subscriptions and Billing.
Does this change my tax software?
No. QBO is the books. Returns still run in the firm's tax suite. IRS Publication 946 is the depreciation publication Intuit cites for a possible section 179 software deduction, not a reason to stay on the wrong QBO tier.
Glossary

List price. The standard monthly rate on Intuit's pricing page, not a promo, reseller, or annual prepaid amount.
Bill Pay Elite. Intuit's higher bill-pay tier; standalone $45/mo after June 8, 2026, and included with Advanced at a stated $540/year value.
Price protection. Intuit's six-month hold of the sign-up rate for recent subscribers, with the new list on the seventh invoice.
Intuit Intelligence. Intuit's AI layer across QBO, including chat insights, auto-categorization, and plan-limited inquiries.
Continuously Clean Books. Advanced service that categorizes and expert-checks transactions through the month.
Intuit Accountant Suite. The firm platform replacing QuickBooks Online Accountant on December 31, 2026.
Workforce. QuickBooks payroll/HR; Steph's Books notes a July 1, 2026 per-employee update separate from the August QBO list.
The QuickBooks Online price increase is a renewal event, not a new product. Open the bill, kill the duplicate Bill Pay line if Advanced now includes it, and put plan name and next bill date on the same workflow that already moves the books. If you want that check next to QBO exports, use the agentic workflow build.
